Baby Sign Language - Share your thoughts
Are any if you planning on doing this? Has anyone done it?
H is on the fence about it, partially because he knows no sign language and partially because my MIL and grandmother in law have him convinced our child won't talk if we use it.
I love the idea of it and I know a lot of signs already because of my job.
One of our older nieces used it and talks just fine, she just didn't talk when everyone wanted her to talk. I think she just didn't have anything to say, because she now doesn't stop talking.

He knew and used milk, water (drink), and all done. We also used bath and play.
I don't think he was delayed in talking. He didn't have any words at 12 months, and at 15 he had a couple words (dada and kitty). Now, he babbles all the time and says milk, mama, dada, hi, kitty, meow, uh-oh, night night and more. He even tries to say one of our cat's names that is pretty tough.
I remember at 9 months I was worried because he wasn't really babbling. But he's been really into gross motor stuff so I think he was more into that than talking for a while. His pedi has not been concerned with his development in any way.
When you use the sign, you always say the word, so it's not like they aren't hearing anything.

Congrats to both my TTC buddies, Amberley18 and sb2006 on their beautiful babies!
Also, signing was HUGE for my nephew. He didn't talk until almost 2 years (I think), so it was key for my sister. He wasn't delayed because of the signing, they were able to communicate because there was signing. They also did signing with my niece, and she was a chatty Cathy at like 13 months.
You've heard what I've done, not what I've been through.

When you've been married this long, you need a ticker to remind you.
