Weight Watchers

Who else is doing Weight Watchers?  How has it been going for you?  Are you staying within your points?  What are your challenges and successes?

Re: Weight Watchers

  • I am.  I've been having some challenges since my friends' wedding last month.  I think I'm finally back on track, but I need to lose another 1.5 pounds to start getting ahead again.

I think my challenges at this point are being bored with food.  I'm trying to get my kid to start eating dinner with us, but it's been a little tough finding something that tastes good that all three of us would want to eat.  It's easy enough to steam up some veggies for him, but as far as main courses go, he's not up to a lot of things yet.

My successes are that I'm definitely eating a ton more fruits and veggies.  Less potatoes and pasta.  For that alone, I'm thrilled.

I'm still down 5 pounds, so I'm still considering it a success, I just need to keep trucking.

  • I've been doing Weight Watchers for about a month.  This week I didn't lose anything - I didn't gain, either, but it was really frustrating.  I still had points left at the end of the week, and I have not been putting in the exercise I do in order to get more points, so why didn't I lose?

I'm also having trouble with being ravenous after school, and then we don't eat dinner until 7.  I am eating way too much before dinner.

  • Do you think you are eating enough? After about a month, it seems right to stall a little if you aren't eating enough. I think it's probably important to eat the bank plus activity points to lose consistently.

  • I think I'm finally ready to go back.
Does everybody go to meetings or just do it online?

  • I do it online.  Meetings scare the shit out of me.

  • I have been seriously considering starting. I would probably do it online. I don't need to lose a lot of weight, but I do feel like I'm carrying around a few extra pounds. I keep thinking I don't really need to diet if I just increase my exercise, but I keep not doing that. I like that weight watchers still offers a lot of flexibility in what you eat, but is really just portion control.

  • I am a Weight Watcher! I have been doing it on and off for a long time. I just re-signed up for the online program this week. I had been doing it for about three weeks using a generic app on my phone, but the official stuff is so much better, so I decided to sign up for it for real.

I used to go to the meetings when my XH and I were still together, but now I live like forty minutes from where the meeting was held, and my leader was so awesome that I don't want to find a new meeting. I had lost, at one point over 75 pounds, but all of the divorce/moving out/moving on stuff that I have been through caused a backslide. I am about 20 pounds heavier than I was at my lowest, but I am doing pretty well currently. It probably helps that I was put on medication for depression and anxiety recently, so I am feeling a lot less "crazy" than I once was. I definitely struggle with compulsive eating and using food to numb emotions, so I am hoping doing WW with the benefit of medication will make it a little easier for me.

This is my problem with meetings as well. I used to have an awesome leader and then she moved up the ranks to corporate and I've never found another leader that I liked.

Sorry to hear about all the craziness going on, but hopefully between the meds and the WW plan you'll be able to get the results you're looking for and it will help.

That's something I hadn't thought about.  I'm not purposely not eating all the points, but I try and save more for the weekend so we can go out to eat or for a glass of wine.  Then I just have more than I want on Sunday.
  • H and I are talking about signing up next week. (My cousin is getting married this weekend so points would not be fun to start tracking during all of that!) We don't need to lose a ton of weight just need to start eating A LOT better than we currently are and hopefully get rid of the dragging ass due to carrying around a little more weight. Glad to hear some positive things about the online version because there is no way either H or I would go to a meeting!!

  • I will be starting again next week, will be doing it online, the meetings also scares me. Last time I went to a meeting it felt like a huge therapy session, it was so so odd, ugh, never again.  But hooping I can stick with it for a while.
  • I've been doing it on and off for the last 7 or 8 years (in between pregnancies, etc.).  I was doing well and under goal until I went on vacation.  I gained about 5 lbs and have not been able to lose it.  With being so busy with work, etc., I've had a hard time tracking.  I really need to get back into it.  I can feel the extra 5 lbs. :(

  • We are having a birthday potluck for our boss at work today. I fear it will not go well. I am going to attempt to track everything that goes into my mouth (I have all my weeklies to make my way through still), and if it gets out of hand, I am going to move on and get right back on track tomorrow instead of letting it turn into a multi-day slide into excess.

I think that's the key.  My previous cycle of dieting is when I eat a little too much, it's a downward cycle of self loathing and eating to excess because why not? I've already done it once!  So far I've seen that Weight Watchers is easier to get back on track.  I still find myself falling into bad habits, but it's been easier to get out of.

  • I am getting back on track this week. My goal each day is to track this week, everything, no matter what. I am also trying to exercise more. I had to buy a size bigger jeans last night and it really put me in a funk
  • Ah, yes, the self-loathing. I know it well. I recently went on medication for depression and anxiety, and I am hoping it will help somewhat with my compulsive eating (my doctor thought it would), but it is SO EASY to let a bad day really become a bad couple of days or week. Shame is a huge issue for me, and I like what Brene Brown says about shame and guilt. Guilt is, "I did something bad," and shame is, "I am bad." My food issues are complex, but I am trying to remember overeating may mean I did something bad, but it does not mean I AM bad. But it's a hard thing sometimes.
