Infant car seats/stroller

What one do you have? What do you like? What do you not like? I am looking for one that goes to 30 lbs and would be compatible with the city mini car seat adapter. For those with the city mini, what do you love? Anything you don't like?
Congrats to my TTC buddy Madeline! Cheering for all the strong 3T ladies!

Re: Infant car seats/stroller

  • I obviously haven't used it yet, but I regsitered for the Chicco KeyFit 30.  It is compatible with my City Select so I think it would be the same.

  • We have the graco snugride 35 which goes to 35 lbs and 32 in. But honestly there is probably no way you'll still be using the infant seat (at least taking it out and carrying it around) when your kid is that weight.

My 2 1/2 yr old daughter just hit 30 lbs. she passed the height limit long ago though so I find that limit to be more important.

While I think my son will reach 30 lbs sooner, it will still be a while and he'll most likely outgrow the height limit first as well.

That being said, I like the infant seat we have and don't have any complaints besides its heavy and big but that's not really any different than all of them. It's just how they are. And I am almost positive it is compatible with the City Mini.

  • I have a Chicco Keyfit 30 with a City Mini. Both are easy and I'm not sad about either.  I can't remember if there's a different adapter for Chicco with the City Mini, so I'd check that out first.

  • I have the Greco 30 and it has been great so far. I also have a snap and go, which is nice. We plan to get the city mini soon.

I prefer to put him in a carrier (baby Bjorn or ergo) than a stroller, but it is nice to have both.

  • I have the city mini and used the Chico key fit. It worked with an adapter. I had no complaints about the seat.

I cannot imagine using an infant seat up to 30 lbs. We switched to a convertible seat at 4.5 months/17 lbs

I did not.  I put her in it once when she was a couple months old and just felt like she was too small.  Baby Jogger makes (or made) an adapter that was specific for Chicco when we bought our stuff so we just made sure to get that one.  The adapter should say which brands will work.

  • We didn't use the stroller on its own for a while (we have the Britax b-safe car seat and b-agile stroller), because it's just so much easier to clip them in when they are in the infant seat.

I want to say he was close to 6 months when we started using it on its own.

ETA - my options are either the graco30 or peg pereggo 30/30

  • we have the graco snugride. probably the 30, not the 35 (my sister had the bigger one and didn't like how deep it was for an infant). i actually purposely didn't get the chicco because it weighed a bit more than the graco and i knew those couple extra pounds would matter once a baby was in it.

i used the adapter on the stroller (city mini) until he was 6ish months old. then i switched him to the front part of the stroller.

we are still using his infant car seat and he is 23.8 lbs and 28". we are going to switch him tonight solely because we are leaving for the beach tomorrow night and it's a 9 hour drive. i figure he will be more comfortable for the drive. otherwise i would have just waited for his birthday in a few weeks (!!!!!!!). i stopped carrying him around in his car seat in april (6 months). DH carried him in it in early may and realized why i had stopped doing so (way too heavy).

i'm so glad i didn't get a different stroller. and i'm really glad i didn't go the snap and go route. they just wouldn't have been something i would have liked. the CM is so easy to maneuver with one hand.
Thanks to our wonderful RE our family is complete!

  • We had the track snugride 30 and loved it. We also used the snap n go. Usually strollers have a recommendation of a certain age to use by itself so you might want to look into that.

  • If you really want the Chicco can you buy it in the US?

Nope. That's the one thing that must be bought in Canada.

Is there some law? How do they check?

It is a law. I don't know how they check. I would assume that unless you bought it and installed it, they wouldn't know. But you can't bring a box over.

  • We had the peg perego viaggio infant car seat that went to 30lb or 30" as it fit in our small car the best. We liked it (although it is heavy and awkward to carry as they get bigger) and we also got the peg perego convertible. We swapped around 8 months but had not been carrying M in the infant seat for a couple of months before that as it was too heavy. He would have outgrown the infant seat by height first (he's 30" and 22lb at 1yr). I never used the infant seat with a stroller as we had the bassinet on the uppababy vista.

I have traveled to Canada and we were not questioned about our car seat.

Only if she wanted to be fined and possibly face criminal charges. It can also void her car insurance.

Canadian car seat standards are a lot higher than US.

  • I have the Peg 30/30 and City Mini GT. That combo worked great for us because the Peg is one that actually clips into the car seat adapter. You can use the City Mini GT from the start because it reclines almost completely flat. We used one of those head rest snuggly things for the first few months though. E just had his 9 mo appt and was 28 inches and 19.5 pounds. We just bought a convertible seat. The very very best thing about the stroller is the true one hand fold. AMAZING. We have ended up wearing him a lot so I only use the stroller now for long walks at the park or when I am going into the mall to try on clothes and I don't want to do the up/down wrap a million times.

  • @Meinschatz11 - Thank you! This is very helpful. I walk and run errands often so having a sturdy, easy to use stroller is a must. I am glad you like it so much.

Which adapter do you have? Could you link? I keep finding two of them online. :(
