Sciatica pain

I have been in pain all day from my sciatic nerve. I know I've seen ladies here talk about it so I was wondering what did you do for relief? I can barely stand but sitting is uncomfortable too :( I know it's only going to get worse from here out...

Re: Sciatica pain

  • I don't have any good advice because when I had it, nothing helped unfortunately. A pillow between my legs was as close as I got but you can only do that so often obviously. The only words of comfort I do have are that it actually went away for me so maybe yours will ease up instead of get worse!

  • I have on and off sciatic pain, pregnant or not, thanks to running :) I've found stretches to help a lot, particularly the piriformis ones. If you google "piriformis stretches" and look at the images, that could be helpful. I hope you get some relief soon!

  • Now that you mention it TR, mine went away too. I thought for sure it'd be out of control with how big LO is, but it's even a few months since my last flare up.

Pillow between the legs and stretches are both good suggestions though in the meantime. And avoid movements that trigger pain.

  • Mine went away later in pregnancy too. I would put a tennis ball between the sore area and the wall and rub on it to massage the area. That helped some but really it was just time for it to get better.

  • Thanks I didn't know if chiropractor was ok. I was going to ask my dr next week at my appointment. I have tried several stretches and it hasn't helped. I'm hoping a good night rest will help.

  • Stretching! And do it daily whether you feel like you need it or not.

I also used to have DH rub my ass to help, lol. Pregnancy is so glamorous.

  • No chiropractor IMO. Get a script for a PT (physical therapist) who can help you without damaging your already loose ligaments. Chiro can and likely will make your joint more unstable, which is the last thing you need.
I second piriformis stretches and pelvic stability exercises, but with the stretches, make sure you don't do one side and not the other or-again- you will make the instability worse.

    Hth!

Sorry! I know you all haven't heard from me in a while, but I have to answer these PT questions!

  • I had this really early first tri. Stretching, drinking more water (I was averaging about 100oz a day) and rubbing the area while the leg was stretched out really helped. Mine went away after 2 weeks
