Long road trip... help me pick my books!

So I have a 14 hour drive to and from New Hampshire this week for my best friend's wedding. I plan on reading/sleeping most the way but I need to know what are some good books for a road trip? I'm thinking more on the lighter side or a fast read that I won't want to put down. I'm finishing Clash of Kings right now but the Game of Thrones books are a little more of a time investment for me and I rather something I don't have to focus on so much. Any books you just absolutely loved and couldn't put down that I should be reading?

(I tend to hover towards YA but I'm open to anything)
(Audiobooks are good too!)

Re: Long road trip... help me pick my books!

  • Try Debora Geary's A Modern Witch series.  They're such a fast, fun read.  It's paranormal fantasy but not specifically YA.  They're so good.

    My favorite Cake Wreck ever.

  • I've been wanting to read those actually, thanks!
  • Divergent and Insurgent - Veronica Roth
The Maze Runner, The Scorch Trials, and The Death Cure - James Dashner
The Selection and The Elite - Kiera Cass
Gameboard of the Gods- Richelle Mead (not YA but she is a YA author)

These are some of the books I've enjoyed recently. The Selection series is really light and easy to go in and out of I think. I really loved Gameboard of the Gods even though it's not YA.

  • I just read To Sin with a Viking....quick read and I could not put it down!

  • @Sarah0154 Thanks for the recs, I might have to check out The Maze Runner (I've read the Divergent and the Selection series and loved both of them)
What is the premise of Gameboard of the Gods?

@saraeric What type of book would you classify this as? Thanks for the rec!
  • Gameboard of the Gods- In a futuristic world nearly destroyed by religious extremists, Justin March lives in exile after failing in his job as an investigator of religious groups and supernatural claims. But Justin is given a second chance when Mae Koskinen comes to bring him back to the Republic of United North America (RUNA). Raised in an aristocratic caste, Mae is now a member of the military’s most elite and terrifying tier, a soldier with enhanced reflexes and skills.

When Justin and Mae are assigned to work together to solve a string of ritualistic murders, they soon realize that their discoveries have exposed them to terrible danger. As their investigation races forward, unknown enemies and powers greater than they can imagine are gathering in the shadows, ready to reclaim the world in which humans are merely game pieces on their board.

Richelle Mead is also the author of the Vampire Academy (YA) series. They're good too.
  • It's a historical romance...very engaging and a quick read.

  • Have you read the Seven Realms Series? SO good, and they are YA Fantasy - sounds right up your alley. If you have read them, and probably talked to me about them, forgive me! I forget who liked what!

    ::butting in:: The Demon King

You MUST read this series because it's amazing.  For me, the first book was a little tough to get through but by the second book- I was hooked!
