I had my boobs checked it bra size yesterday

I went to Victoria secret yesterday to get my free undies and decided I needed a new black bra. They wanted to check my size first to make sure the bra was fitting properly. We'll they say I'm a 32dd! Hahaha I've worn a 34b my entire life!

But the bigger bra fit.

I think vs is changing bra sizes like clothing companies are changing pant sizes. Like the fact that I'm 10lbs heavier now than in high school and still wear the same pant size is clearly a good indicator of that! All in order to make you feel better about yourself.

Re: I had my boobs checked it bra size yesterday

  • They tried telling me last year that I was a D, when I was barely filling a B in any other bra.  But they told me that I was a 32 around instead of a 36. Which I think is how the larger cup size actually worked.

@aimothy I don't blame you for not wanting to go in there. When I was a DD, they tried telling me that I needed to go to an F. Which included ordering bras to fit. No thanks.

There was an enormous bra thread on ML GBCN a couple months ago re: bra sizing. I can try to dig up the link when I get home if anyone is interested...

I really don't think bra sizes are vanity sized like pants and such are; it's more or less you have a range of 32A--40DD to squeeze your tits into in (most) stores, even if in reality you should be wearing a 30D or a 36F. If you're buying the wrong size, manufacturers are just going to keep making that size and stores are going to keep selling that size. yada yada.

    ETA: Found it! http://pandce.proboards.com/thread/193166/bra-thread-bosom

  • I always find when I go to a proper bra store to get fitted that the correct size is way bigger (just to clarify, I am not including VS in my definition of a "proper" bra store).  If I went into a department store to buy a bra, I would "fit" a DD; I usually fall between G and H when I get measured and they fit perfectly.

    Well, it's really VS's loss.

  • They told me I was a 32C and I'm not sure if it's right, but I'm trying it out. I also don't know where to go to get a proper fitting.

I used to work at VS. Cup size is relative to band size. IE:

If your band size decreases, the relative size of the cup decreases as well. A 32DD bra will have a smaller cup than a 36DD bra.

Also, the vast majority of people out there don't wear the correct band size. Women apparently think that if the band is very snug, it must be too small (or they find it uncomfortable because they're used to wearing everything loose) and they go up to the next band size, which just leads to it riding up and not supporting properly.

My friend wears a 34AA ideally. This means her boobs themselves are the exact same size as mine, but I wear a 32A (because my band size is smaller, it means the cup size is a little smaller than a 34's would be as well).

It's all relative! Glad you got fitted and have a new bra that works for you now!

@lilliesandvino this is a great suggestion! any excuse to go to Nordstrom....

  • There isn't a Nordstrom in my state. Would a Younkers or Dillards be the same?

Eh, I've never found Dillards to be near on the same level as Nordstroms.  Not sure about Younkers, never heard of it.  Do you have a Soma close by?  They have been very good the few times I've gone in there.

  • I refuse to go into VS. I'm sure I'm not wearing the correct bra size but my correct size is impossible to find. I have this whole rant that it's like they think that fat girls all have huge boobs. Not the case with me. I actually wish I could just get someone to custom sew me a bra that would fit properly.

I'm sure it would. I had DH measure me so I'm sure he wasn't perfectly accurate but he was probably pretty close. If I could find a place other than VS that does fittings, I'd probably get one.

  • Do any of you ladies watch Double Divas? I so wish I could go there and get fitted because they carry all sizes and my true size is not really sold anywhere. You can measure yourself for a bra by measuring around underneath your boobs and then measuring around your boobs +1 is A +2 is B +3 is C and on and on. Also I believe if your number underneath is odd you round up to the next even number. So last time I measured I am a 30C which I have yet to find anywhere.

  • I'm a 30C too! Macy's carries a few styles online in 30C that are around $40. That is the only place I have found anything in a size 30 other than training bras in AA and AAA.
  • You can also check for a specialty shop in your area.  I have a store near me called Bra Genie and went there just for my bridal undergarments.  They fitted me and showed me how a bra should really fit.  It definitely changed my life.  They are the only place I go to for bras now.  They carry all kinds of sizes.  I measured in at a 34FF with them and the large size does not mean that I have to wear ugly funky granny bras.  They even have cute ones and sexy ones in my size.  I pay more obviously but I'm so much more comfortable that it's worth it.
