**Meghan**-organizing kids stuff

I thought I commented on this last week, so I now see that nest ate my post.  I did exactly what you said you wanted to do last year, and I took a personal day off of work to organize closets & clothing!  It was a day well spent.  I organized my closet, both kids, and put away their fall clothes, packed up their summer clothes....since I was doing it all uninterrupted, it took about half the time it probably would do to the same thing on the weekend with a million other thigns going on.  I got it all done by early afternoon, and I was even able to veg out & watch TV before daycare pick up, so I felt like it was a very accomplished day!! :)

I did a lot of our stuff over the weekend, the kids wanted to play in Jake's room so Brian & I were able to tackle a lot of the clothes & closets together while they were occupying each other.  That afternoon, Liam was napping & Brian and Jake were out together, so I took that time to pack up some of their toys while no one was around to protest!

Re: **Meghan**-organizing kids stuff

  • Okay, I definitely need to do this!  I did get the boys fall clothes out this weekend, but then I just threw what didn't fit them into a bin and didn't bother to put away summer clothes.  I think you have inspired me to bite the bullet and just do it!

I am mostly intimidated by doing a big toy purge.  I need less toys in my home, but I don't know how to decide what to get rid of.  (They don't really have any toys that they don't play with.)

I used one of my Friday's off to do a big toy purge two weeks ago. I can't attempt such a thing if they're home, because then the toy that they haven't touched in 6 months and is not at all age appropriate suddenly becomes the toy they can't live without.

I got donated three big boxes of toys, and pitched two garbage bags of toys with missing pieces, and no one has noticed any of these items are gone yet :)

My Friday off in two weeks is going to be the day I tackle clothes. Woo Hoo!

    Good luck with it Meghan!

  • Meghan-I didn't get rid of a ton, but enough to make some space in the bins that are completely stuffed and overflowing.  I feel the same way, there's really nothing that they don't play with at some point, even if it's not every day.  Plus, they have a lot of the same kinds of things, so I'm not going to get rid of some of it, you know?  Like superheroes for example...we probably have 3 different spiderman toys (but of course, they all do different things!) and 20 other superhero action figures.  I didn't even touch that bin, because they do play with them...maybe not all 20 at the same time, but they do play with the figures a lot.
