Fitness Post!

How did everyone do last week?

I totally bailed on all of my cross training days, but did my 3 runs for the week (5, 5, and 9).  Still plugging along at a snail's pace.  I tried some GU on my long run this weekend, and while I thought it was totally gross, I did feel that it helped me get through the run.  This week I'm hoping to fit in some pilates and zumba.

I know the Great Race is this weekend - is everyone who is doing it ready?

Also, does anyone have any new music to suggest that I can add to my playlist?  I need some new songs!

  • I finally got back out there & ran last week!  It was a bit of a struggle (not really the running itself, mostly the forcing myself to put on running clothes and get out of my house) but I did it.  I did 2 miles each time, then once on Sunday for 2.25.

  • What is GU? I'm almost afraid to ask if is totally gross!

    I did my body blast class last week.  I moved up to using 4 and 5lb weights.  (instead of 3 and 4).  It's funny how just one pound can make a difference, and I definitely felt it the next day!  My goal is to get up to using 8lb'ers by Thanksgiving.   

    I went to yoga at lunch today and I'll do Body blast tomorrow.  I hope to do Pilates on THursday.  And maybe zumba on Saturday morning.  (But it's the one with the crappy instructor, so I don't know if it's worth my time...although I guess any kind of moving is good).

    It's an engergy gel that you are supposed to take to help restore you through long workouts.  I tried the cherry flavor, but it had a weird taste, and between that and the consistency, it kind of made me gag.  It's only a small packet of gel, that most people would probably be fine with, but I'm a baby.
  • I managed to get to yoga/core class today at the work gym.  It felt so good, and I would love to try to make it weekly.

    We got my treadmill out of storage, so I'm hoping that will allow me to squeeze in another day of work outs, since the shorter days cut into my biking time.  

    And with a month to vacation, I need to get back to Jillians NMTZ.  I was really starting to notice a difference.

  • LOL!  I thought it was something you were doing to your body.   I'm glad I asked.   Okay and I don't blame you.  A bad tasting gel would make me gag.  Ever seen/tried Gushers?  Fruit snacks with squirty stuff inside?  Yeah, just the thought of them makes me gag.   I also can't eat jello, so I am pretty sure I couldn't do a tube of gel.
  • I was on an antibiotic last week that made me really sick to my stomach. Despite wanting to go to Zumba last Monday I felt like throwing up so didn't go. Then my Wednesday class I couldn't make cause I had dinner plans. Thurs I got out there for my first run in over a week or so, I felt decent so I ran 5K. Was surprised I did so well since it had been awhile! Got to Zumba Saturday and ran 5k again yesterday. My dog ran 8 miles yesterday! She ran 5 with dh in the morning and the with me. She was still pulling and amped on my run! I wish I had her energy!! I plan on doing Zumba tonight and hoping to get back in my routine.

  • Last week I ran on Tuesday (6.35 mi.) and Saturday (3.22 mi). I skipped Thursday since I wasn't feeling well, and I still felt somewhat sluggish on Saturday which is why I only did 3.22. I am working today, so no run for me. I might be able to squeeze one in on Thursday and then that will be it until the The Great Race on Sunday.

  • I eased back into the gym last week and used the bike. Yesterday I did an easy couple miles on the elliptical and felt good so I think I'm good from my back injury. So back to a couple miles 3 -4 times a week :)
  • I am somehow back to running pain-free!  woot!  Settling into my "not training but not slacking" routine of one 30 minute swim, two 3 mile runs, and one long run per week.
