Re: Meal Plan 9/23-9/28

  • So what is everybody cooking up this week? I know we're having beef tips and noodles, that's all I know for sure

Anything new? This will be the second time I've made this recipe, got it from facebook

Any questions? How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?

QOTW- What do you always make from scratch and what do you take shortcuts for(buy premade or instant, etc)?
I always make homemade mashed potatoes. I have my perfected way and nothing compares to them! I've never made homemade stuffing, I've always used the box. Helps I don't really like stuffing.

  • So what is everybody cooking up this week?
EB Stromboli (w/ground turkey) & zucchini pancakes
    Crock pot chicken pot pie
    Beef & broccoli, rice
    Pumpkin French toast, bacon, fruit
    Guinness beef stew
Spicy sausage pasta w/ fresh spinach
    Veggie lasagna pasta toss

    Anything new?
Stromboli, chicken pot pie and beef stew

    Any questions? None

QOTW- What do you always make from scratch and what do you take shortcuts for(buy premade or instant, etc)?

I've started doing more baking from scratch since I'm SAH. So we'll use homemade bread for French toast, and I'm making the pie crusts for the chicken pot pie. I also do homemade cookies, etc.

I tend to take more help from the store with produce. I hate slicing mushrooms, and I especially hate cutting up broccoli and butternut squash. I will gladly pay more to have it done for me.

  • So what is everybody cooking up this week?

In no particular order: Spaghetti/sauce, chicken and veggie stir fry, margherita pasta (this will have chicken, tomatoes, basil, and parmesan cheese), and leftover turkey chili over baked potatoes (Skinnytaste recipe).

Anything new? The pasta recipe is new this week.

    Any questions? Nope!

QOTW- What do you always make from scratch and what do you take shortcuts for(buy premade or instant, etc)? Hmmm...I can't think of anything I regularly buy instant/premade, other than obvious things, like bread, pasta, etc.  I also prefer to make my mashed potatoes from scratch, and I do most of my baking from scratch too.  The exception to that is cake mixes, which are almost always better than anything I can do from scratch.

Writing this made me really hungry!  :)

  • Tonight was a fend for yourself night because I forgot to plan something and hung out with my mom all day and DH is working late this week.

    Tuesday-Kielbasa and cabbage
    Wednesday-Honey Dijon Chicken
    Thursday-Pineapple/maple glazed ham
    Friday-Tater tot casserolle
    Saturday-Spaghetti

All of it is new except spaghetti. I am going to make two of our freezer meals this week which is super exciting. I hope they are good so I can plan on making them again next month.

    No questions yet.

QOTW- I always make mashed potatoes from scratch but we buy gravy in a packet. I buy pizza dough and pie crusts pre made. I make stuff from scratch on Thanksgiving but use whatever shortcuts I can during the week. I try not to sacrifice taste or health though.

Yesterday we had Wendy's after birth class...
Tonight my mom is coming up so I'll probably go out with her for dinner...
Tomorrow we're going to a fair...
Thursday I'm making dinner for another couple, we're having beef stew with biscuits
Friday we're going to the fair...
Saturday DH has a wrestling show so I'll get chinese or have cereal...
Sunday I'm making breakfast for DH because he's leaving for a week for work.

Next week... cereal or grilled cheese every day. No DH means I don't cook!

I make a lot from scratch, but it's because I have weird allergies and it's not known was causes them. I make my own spaghetti/pasta sauce, bread when I have time, I make gravy when ever we need it... I almost never buy prepackaged stuff. I just keep the things I need on hand to make most things we like.

Fun fact... when I moved in with DH I had never made Rice a Roni or Hamburger Helper. I've still never made HH.
