stupid question of the day
so i'm sure there will be more of these, but how seriously do you take all the 'food rules' that come along with pregnancy.
I put feta on my salad everyday at lunch and I just realized maybe I shouldn't be eating feta anymore since its a soft cheese??
Re: stupid question of the day
You can eat feta and other soft cheeses because they've been pasteurized.
I didn't follow any food rules aside from not having runny eggs, avoiding raw fish sushi, and not ordering my steak as bloody as I would normally like to.
I eat Jimmy Johns at least once a week and haven't avoided caffeine or soft serve ice cream.
ETA: I talked to my Dr's about the food rules and they didn't tell me to avoid anything, and the research I've done didn't show me anything that was concerning or occuring enough for me to cut things from my diet. Do what you feel comfortable with, though.

I still have a cup of coffee every morning and the occasional soda. My doctor told me that I could have 2.5 medium sized cups of coffee a day.
(~200-250mg of caffeine daily)
I just had an iced coffee for the first time since being pregnant the other day and when I drink soda I try to have Sprite Zero but I don't feel bad for having a diet coke or bleu cheese on my salads.

.
To make you feel my love.
- No caffeine 1st trimester but 1 small cup of coffee a day since 13 weeks
- No cold cuts unless toasted/broiled
- Soft cheese but only if pasteurized (so I won't eat feta, mozzarella, brie or blue cheese in a restaurant because I can't check but I buy in a supermarket)
- Fish is fine other than those with high mercury (swordfish and tuna I think)
- No sushi
- I get my steak and burgers medium instead of medium rare
- Obviously no alcohol (well I've had total probably 2 glasses of red wine in 26.5 weeks through sips of DH)
I think that's all. I don't make myself crazy and if something slips in, I don't stress. It's a personal choice and the chances of something bad happening are so miniscule. But I am paranoid so I try to follow the "rules."
I do all this too. It really hasn't been that difficult for me. With my history I'm not taking any chances.

Both my doctors (I changed dr half way through due to a move) said 250mg a day is fine. Neither specified anything about any trimester. If the doctor told you coffee was ok then it's fine.
