Do you finish a book if you know the spoilers?

I was thinking about this last night as I went to my book club.  I'm only 1/3 of the way into the book but still went so I know the majority of what happens throughout the book already.  Now I feel a bit jaded about even finishing as I feel like the excitement has dwindled.  Granted it was my fault because I went and knew I'd find more out that I hadn't read already.  So, NBC, do you finish books if you already know the ending or spoilers?

Re: Do you finish a book if you know the spoilers?

  • I do. I've accidentally had books spoiled, but I still finish them. It's like the saying, "It's about the journey, not the destination." While the element of surprise may be gone, I can still enjoy a well written story.

  • I do.  I'm not too big of a stickler about them and in some cases I will seek them out.  Sometimes they get me more excited to read.

  • I do too. Unless it's a mystery with a giant twist, I'm still gonig to want to read it. I may wait a while before reading it so the spoiler is less fresh in my mind.

  • Yeah, I don't get too in a twist over spoilers. I would rather go in not going, but the joy is in the journey, ya know?

  • I will if it was something I was enjoying. It's a little less enjoyable but generally there are things that I won't know, even if some things get spoiled.

  • I always finish even if I know the spoilers. I wouldn't not be able to finish it.
  • Definitey! It's obviously better to not know, but that doesn't make the book any less worth it. The only exception would be if I really wasn't enjoying the book to begin with.

  • I usually stay away from opening posts that discuss the book I'm reading (sp or ns).  I have been very lucky because I have never really been spoiled.

There has only been one occasion where I have accidentally spoiled something for myself and that was in Half-Blood Prince.  I highly doubt I would have stopped reading it even though the piece of information I spoiled was MAJOR (hint: Dumbledore).

  • I hate when a book is spoiled but I would still read it/ finish the book because I would want to know why things happened the way they did :-)

  • While I try my best to avoid spoilers, they won't stop me from reading 9 times out of 10.

  • Spoilers don't bother me because they're mostly discussed out of context.  I have no clue what they're talking about in most cases.  And if I do remember them when I get to that point, it's more of an "Oh yeah" sort of thing.

  • Sometimes it will bug the crap out of me, but I will still finish the book. The only way I would stop reading is if I found out the ending and did not like it- even than I am a see-for-yourself kind of person with book endings.

  • I will continue to read.  Even though I may know what is going to happen, I still like to find out the events that lead to the big happening.

  • I try to avoid spoilers, but I have a very tough time not finishing a book. I'm one of those anal types. (My "abandoned" shelf on Goodreads only has two books on it.)

  • It depends on how much I'm liking the book, usually I do though.

  • It depends on how much I'm enjoying the book.  If I really like it, I'll keep going.  If I'm feeling meh about it, I'll stop and pick up something else.
  • I do, but I think I'm usually pretty good about stating spoil -free. Occasionally there's a book I actually want spoiled because I disliked it but still want to know what happened.

  • I'll still finish. I had something spoiled for me recently and even though I was pissed about it, I kept reading. It did take away from that scene because all I could think about was that I already knew, but I still enjoyed the book.

  • I do. To me, there will always be some aspects that weren't spoiled for me and I can still enjoy the writing and the story.

  • For me it depends. Right now i'm reading Harry Potter even thought I watched the movies, but I didn't watch the last movie because I want to find out who it all ends through the book. But there have been others that have been spoiled to me that I won't read, like Marley and Me, someone told me the ending and now I won't even read it. If I was in the middle of a book and someone told me a spoiler I would keep reading, I HATE not finishing a book I started.
