Too many shoes, not enough space!

We need a clever idea for shoe storage. We are in a tiny studio apartment with no cupboards or closets so our shoes wound up in two gigantic laundry baskets and they are overflowing, not to mention an eye sore. We have under the bed options (bed is raised two feet) but Idk how to store them conveniently where we can still get to them easily. Any clever ideas?

Re: Too many shoes, not enough space!

  • An over-the-door organizer would be helpful and easily accessible.

Also, IKEA sells some shoe storage pieces that are thin enough that they can be placed in a hallway and act as a console table.

If you have extra hanging space in your closet, you could always hang a shelf from the bar and put the shoes on the shelf.

And then I guess the last thing would be to get rid of some of the shoes.  I know that's probably not what you want to hear, but if you don't have the space for them, then that would be the best option.
  • I think there are plastic bins with lids that have wheels on them for easy under bed storage.
  • I like to use over the door shoe hangers for stuff (seriously I have a ton of them that I use to hold various things like craft supplies, cleaning products, etc.) I'm a fan of using vertical space for storage.

Another thing you could do is to store your shoes in a rolly bin under the bed. You could use this one just for seasonal shoes that you aren't wearing at the moment (ie during winter you can toss your sandles and stuff in there and in the summertime you could store your boots and warm weather footwear there.)

And like PP suggested you may have to reevaluate how many shoes you guys really need. When DH and I moved I took a hard look at all our clothes and realized that I didn't really need a several black pumps, and several boots, and tons of flip-flops, etc. I narrowed it down to my absolute favorites and the ones that were more versatile and I no longer felt I was drowning in shoes (I also did this with my purses--that was a tough day).

    Good luck!

  • I have the same problem! Thank you for those great idea!
  • If you have several pairs of boots (or even a couple pairs) BB&B sells boot hangers that go in your closet. You just slide the shaper into the boot and clip the hanger to each boot. The boots keep their shape and they're out of the way.
  • Apparently no one read that she doesn't have closets. Sounds like really your only option may be rolling under the bed storage. You could get a wall-mount shoe rack but that might be even more of an eyesore, not to mention putting big holes in the wall for the molly scews (assuming you're renting). Another option would be to get cute, non-see-through laundry baskets with lids, so anyone who sees it would simply assume it's laundry. :)

  • Get a bookshelf or few and put your shoes there.  We have the same problem in our apt.  My husband is a sneaker fiend and so am I.  Also I have my sandals, boots and heels.  Shoes have taken over lol.  Another idea is put shelves and put them high up.  See if that works.
