I'm Afraid To Read

Hi. My name is MrsC7 and I'm a binge reader.  I devour books in one sitting.  It is really, really hard for me to put down a book after just a few chapters. Usually I will stay up late to finish and pay the price the next day. I can't do that anymore. By the time I get home, eat dinner, and put Em to bed, it's 9PM. She gets up at 5:45AM every day. Staying up late + waking up early = brain dead MrsC7.

The last book I devoured was Perks of Being a Wallflower.  I loved it.  But I was a complete waste of space at work the next day.  I want to read more but I can't do it like I used to. It's like going drinking and clubbing til 4AM. I'm too old for this sh!t.

I need to learn to replace the reading equivalent of this:

Anyone else do this?

  • All I want to do lately is read when B is asleep, but it's so difficult because I know that if I read, then he'll wake up minutes after I finally decide to go to sleep, or he'll be up at 5 or 6 am and I'll be a zombie (mombie) for the rest of the day. Decisions decisions.

But kudos on the amazing gifs! :-D

  • If the book is OFMG good, I'll maybe stay up an hour passed my bed time (which has been 1am).

On the weekends, I usually can't make it passed 10pm or 11pm.

  • Last night I got in bed at 10.  At 11:45, I made myself put the book down and shut off the light.  Then I laid awake until almost 2, and even then, it was only because I got up and took something to help me sleep.  So the lesson for me is, just stay up reading until you fall asleep in the book or you finish it.  You're not going to get to sleep anyway.

In related news: You guys, Joe Hill is a fantastic writer!  If I had kept reading all that time, I totally would've finished NOS4A2.
  • Oh man, I hear you. Ive been reading in the evening because E has been up and down until 11ish. There's no point in going to bed when he's up every 45 min. But, the zzzzzs

  • I have a real problem with this.  I lay on the couch and read my nook at night until I fall asleep.  Then I go upstairs and read on the nook app on my phone in bed until I fall back asleep.  I have sleep issues.  I love to sleep in when I can which is usually never but I hate going to bed at night.  I'd stay up all night if it wouldn't make my days so difficult.  Right now I usually go to bed around midnight and get up around 6am.  I tend to toss and turn all night.  It makes sleep less appealing.  I'd rather read.  At least I'm accomplishing something.

  • It's tough. When she gets up I start to read but have to cut myself off at stopping points so I can get back to sleep. I'm never going to survive going back to work with two kids if I can't do this. Reading at lunchtime and pumping will need to be my savior.

    Awesome gifs C7.

  • I want to read. Badly. But there is way too much to do. With packing and getting ready to move I can't afford to get lost in a book. Especially since J has been away so much and will be away/busy until we move so I have to do everything for A and Remy.
  • No matter how hard I try it is very hard for me to stay up really late to finish a book! Sometimes I really want to but I can't keep my eyes open...I try and wake up early to finish in these cases :-)

  • I will stay up late but not all night. I might be up an hour so later to read a good book. I used to stay up like that to finish the book. I did that with the HP books and it really was unhealthy. 7 came out when I was working 2 jobs and going to school full time... I had to pace myself and it in 3 days instead of 1.

  • I'm in the same boat.  I never know how Julia is going to sleep so I have to go to bed early in case she decides to party in the middle of the night.  I started reading last night and had to force myself to stop, otherwise I would have stayed up for hours!

THANK GOD this isn't me right now.  I partly think I had trouble getting to sleep last night because I was afraid that when I fell asleep there would be little vampire children with fish hook teeth playing "scissors-for-the-drifter" in my dream.  I don't read a lot of scary stuff, I'm not very good at it.
  • I do the same exact thing. I just CAN'T STOP.

  • This is my life and why I don't read as many books as I should. Definitely the curse of being nosy as hell!

  • I do the same thing. I'll be exhausted and tell myself "just one more chapter" and then suddenly it is 1 in the morning and I'm finished with the book.

  • This is me all.the.time. I will tell myself I'll read for just an hour and then go straight to bed. Grown up style.

No. It'll be like 2.5 hours later when I look up at the clock and I know I'm already going to be tired the next day so I give myself another half hour before I go to bed.

@shellmh I went through this after Jack was born for the first year and am going through it now, too. Read? Sleep? I always make the wrong choice lol. On the days I read, she is up right away and I don't get to sleep. On the days I sleep, she sleeps awhile and I would have had time to read AND sleep.
