Vegas

I'm going to Vegas this weekend.  I've been there a few times, but have never seen a show in Vegas.  Does anyone have any recommendations for shows to see while I'm there?  DH and I want to see one this weekend.  Everytime I've to Vegas I've had a very different experience than the time before, and there is always something new there.  Any recommendations of things to do, places to go/eat are greatly appreciated.

Re: Vegas

  • I've only been to Vegas once and I was around 12 years old, so I'm not much help but I just want to say that I am super jealous!  Have a great time!!

  • How fun!  I've never been, except for a layover going to CA... there's slot machines IN THE AIRPORT!  I was amazing (I was also 19).

  • LOL, mana! The first time I went to Vegas, I remember being just as amused by the airport slot machines.

Seipel, I'm afraid I don't have much advice. I didn't go to any shows when I was there.

  • I've never been to Vegas, but I've always wanted to eat at Bobby Flay's restaurant Mesa Grill! DH went to Vegas last year for a conference, I told him that if he went to Mesa Grill without me, the wedding was off LOL!

He said that he liked the buffet at the Wynn...he ate there almost every night LOL!

  • I am a huge Cirque du Soliel fan, so any of their shows are definitely recommended.  I saw Zarkana when it was in NY and it was amazing.  When H and I went last month, we saw Mystere and that was the best of the Cirque shows that I've seen.  I think I've seen 4.

O at the Bellagio has great reviews.  So does La Reve, which is a Cirque du Soliel type show.  Absinthe is at Cesar's, it was fairly new when we went, but heard great things also.

They have these Tix 4 Tonight booths all around the strip.  Use them to get tickets as they are much cheaper through the booths.  All of the shows I mentioned had tickets at the booth.  Before you go, check the dark days for any show so you won't wait to get tickets for no reason.  They post the tickets that they have available for the day at 9:30 and they go on sale at 10.  Then you go to the venue to pick up your tickets.  The earlier you buy, the better the seats you get.

I HIGHLY recommend Sigfried and Roy's dolphin exhibit and secret garden at the Mirage.  The dolphins are so close!  Then you can see many of Sigfried and Roy's lions and tigers.  It was a beautiful sanctuary!

Where are you staying?  I may have some more advice.
  • Blue Man Group, for sure!
  • @sjs1013 I really want to go to a Cirque du Soliel show!  DH and I were talking about it and think that is what we are going to go see.

We are staying at the Venetian this time around.  I'm really excited to stay there!!

  • We stayed at the Palazzo, part of the Venetian.  It was AMAZING!  Be sure to go to Bouchon bakery and get a French macaroon.  So delicious!  Sign up for the Grazi card and they give you a decent coupon book.

I heart Burgers was really tasty, so was Grimaldi's pizza.  We thought it was funny we've never been to Grimaldi's in NY, but went in Vegas.

There is a Walgreens in between the Venetian and the Palazzo.  H and I bought beer there to save some money.

If you really want to see a Cirque show, I highly recommend using the Tix 4 Tonight booth.  It's a great value and you get good seats.  We paid the same for our Mystere seats, which were close, than if we bought the last row direct through Cirque du Soliel or through the Box Office.

We didn't take taxis while there, we got monrail tickets.  It runs parallel to the strip and stops every few casinos.  We would get the monorail in Harrah's, take it down the strip, then go back.  The ticket was like $12/day and then got cheaper the more days you bought.  When looking for Mystere tickets at Tix 4 Tonight on our 2nd day, they had a 5 day monorail ticket for the same price as a 3 day ticket.  We only took taxis to and from the airport.

Also, the Palazzo and Venetian have an airport shuttle.  I would call them to find out how airport pick up works.  We didn't know about it on arrival.  I think it was $7/person.  When we arrived, we got stuck in traffic and cost almost $25 to get from the airport to the hotel.

Also, at check in, ask for a room upgrade.  It seems like they always give them.  I read online to slip the person $20, which we did, but it didn't seem like we needed to.  We got an upgraded room, they waived the early check in fee (we arrived at 9 am) and we got a free fridge for our stay.  Well worth the $20 we gave.

Our room was almost as big as our apartment and our bathroom was larger than our bedroom at home.

  • @sjs1013 Thanks for all the tips!!  I'll let you know how the trip goes.  DH's cousin is meeting us there and got some freebies from work.  He works for CBS, so hopefully he scored some good stuff!
  • @Seipel12, have a great weekend!
