Where are my federal employees at?

Just wondering who else here is facing a shutdown at work.  Do you think this is really going to happen?

My husband is a federal employee and I'm a DoD contractor.  His status is a little more obvious...shutdown and he doesn't go to work/get paid.  Me, we're still waiting for approval to work without government supervision.

Re: Where are my federal employees at?

  • I believe, depending on where you work and what type of work you work in, your H could face the shutdown. I don't believe you will have a problem since you are a DoD contractor. We were told Friday that we would not be facing the shutdown since we are critical, but across the water, the employees are facing that probobility since they are not critical.

  • Yeah, my husband is not considered essential so he would definitely be affected.  Our contract is paid, so that's not a problem, however the sticking point is that we would be here without federal supervisors.  So we wait like everyone else.

  • Good luck to you both. It's always so scary when this stuff happens.

  • This whole situation really sucks. I am so pissed that the politicians can't work together and make a compromise. For your sake, I hope they come through with a compromise soon!

  • I'm a contractor, but I'm exempt from the shutdown.  My government coworkers are also exempt because we have funding already allocated.  SUCH a fucking relief.  I was really starting to stress, since I'm the sole breadwinner.

  • We were just told that if our base closes down, we are not to report until they reopen.  We must use PTO or LWOP.  Ughhhhhhhh

  • @LooneyLife that's how it was for me during the furlough.  They gave me the opportunity to work 4-10's, but there wasn't any way I could do that, so I took a paycut along with everyone else.  My building completely shut down on Fridays so I couldn't work at all.

I'll just never understand how this stuff works!  During the furloughs we weren't affected at all.  My building shut down on Fridays, so I just had to find another building to work in.  I really hope they get something together tonight, but I'm not counting on it.
