QOTD 10/1

Did you grow up in the city, the country or somewhere in between?

Re: QOTD 10/1

  • I guess it's somewhere in between.  We've always lived in the suburbs of a major city.  When we moved to Austin from Denver, it was a bit of a shock because even though we lived in a suburb, there were deer just walking around in the yards.  They'd even come up and eat out of our hands.  It was the weirdest thing to me because in Colorado, you'd only see wildlife like that when you got into the mountains.

  • Somewhere in between.  Not a tiny town, but still had that small town feel most of the time.

  • Somewhere in between.  My parents have a hobby farm, but they are surrounded by suburbs.  It was country when I was really young, but by the time I was in elementary school a lot of the old farmers around us had retired and sold their land to developers.  They are really nice housing developments though.  There are still some farms including mine still going strong, but the majority are developments now.
  • Country girl right here.  But, we also could hop on the interstate about 10 miles away and head downtown.  It was the perfect combination for me.

  • Country. My hometown is a tiny little place, but there are 2 colleges within city limits and the population more than doubles when school is in session. We are nonetheless considered 'the city' by all the tiny little dairy farming towns nearby, simply because we have the nearest Walmart.

  • Somewhere in between. I've near (not on) military bases my whole life. Some have been in big cities (I'm looking at you Montgomery, AL) and some have been in tiny towns (Cold Lake, AB). Now I live in the suburb have a medium sized city.

  • Kind of a combination. Up until 3rd grade I lived on a farm outside our town of 800 people. Then my parents divorced and my mom moved us to the big city nearby that was like 30k people. I still consider myself country though. My friends and I would drive an hr to Des Moines just to go out to Olive Garden as entertainment! Lol

  • I grew up in what would be considered a city. My hometown is the second largest city in Michigan. I did grow up within the city limits and went to an inner city school, with all of the good and bad things that go along with that.

  • Somewhere in between... I grew up in a small city outside of Albany, NY...it wasn't the middle of nowhere, but you had to drive to Albany (about 30 minutes) to go to a mall.

  • In between. I grew up in the suburbs, but I was only a few miles south of downtown Albany.
  • I grew up in the city.  It's right next to New York City.  I don't think I could live anywhere else.  H grew up in one of the NYC boroughs.  We like the convenience of everything being so close, not always having to drive, access to almost anything.  And, if we want to go to the country, it's only like a 30 minute drive.
  • I grew up kind of in-between. I lived on the outskirts of Nashville, which is definitely big city, but I lived 20ish minutes out on 28 acres where our nearest neighbor was 2 miles away. I went to high school downtown Nashville, so I like to think I got the best of both.

  • Small town in the Country. Walmart, movies and any chain restaurant (besides pizza Hut) was 45 mins away.

I lived just within town limits, but I walked to my friend's farm most days to help her feed the cows... We had barn parties with hay mazes, bon fired, etc. I miss it!

I love living in the country. I tried living closer to Baltimore... HATED IT. We bought our house 12 miles from where I grew up. I love it.

  • Country...nearest Walmart was 30 minutes and nearest mall an hour in any direction you wanted to travel.

I still live in the middle of nowhere in DH's home town...in fact his town is smaller than mine and we live in an 'unincorporated' a few miles between two small towns there are 3 houses (including ours) and a lumber company in our unincorporated.

  • I grew up right outside NYC (Long Island) and H grew up in Brooklyn. We both had moved upstate a little about 15 years ago and we bought our house out in the country. Our town does not have a traffic light and our grocery store is also the hardware store lol.
