Winter apparel help for 1 year old

I am debating between a two piece snowsuit and a one piece for this winter. Is it safe for your LO to wear just the snow pants in a car seat? What if it has a bib? Is the two piece worth it for diaper changes? Did you find that the one piece was significantly warmer? I figure in the stroller I can bundle him with blankets, but what about when I'm wearing him or he is running around in the snow?  Did you get a fleece snowsuit AND waterproof one? I could do a one piece fleece and a two piece waterproof.

I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love.

Re: Winter apparel help for 1 year old

  • We have never actually gotten Ava Nichol a snow suit. Last year she was 8-11 months during winter and we just stayed inside where it was warm and she used a heavy coat and hat if we went outside but she didn't play in the snow.

I can see a lot of benefits to the two piece...like being able to keep the pants on during car rides and for easy diaper changes. I haven't really seen anything to get for Ava Nichol yet because I am sure she will play in the snow this year.

  • I will go completely insane if I have to stay inside! I'm not sure how much he will play in the snow, but I will be taking him on lots of walks as long as it isn't completely frigid.

  • I think if you are planning on walks and stuff then the fleece snowsuit would work well. Keep him nice and warm. I am looking into the waterproof ones because I am sure she will be running and rolling around in the snow so she would get soaked.

  • I've been looking at this one from ON. It doesn't come with feet in the bigger sizes. Unfortunately I don't think this one is car seat safe.

  • It is so cute! I think it will keep him nice and warm and if you can just put a blankie on him in the car seat then you can bring this with you and put it over light clothing when you get to where you are going.

I think finding something that works for the car seat will be near impossible anyway and putting this on wouldn't be too much more work than putting a jacket on when getting out of the car.

  • BSD, the ON one that you posted looks just like the one my SIL passed down to us. It's actually not as thick as it looks and is more fleece-like than anything. I think that we'll be using it in the car seat.

  • I would use that one in a car seat. I would not use snow pants in a car seat.

If I were to go pick up Cora a snow suit, it would probably be the pants with a bib (and then wear a jacket) instead of a full on suit. I don't like the idea of her having separate pieces (pants and jacket).

Thanks. I'm hoping that it doesn't look weird in a big size. I think it will be okay though. Now I just need to find a regular snow suit. I LOVE the ones at LL Bean but not the price tag. I wish I had the patience for Mom to Mom sales.
