SA tips/advice

Anyone have any good SA tips or advice?

DH has his appointment on Friday and he's a little nervous and anxious. We have to abstain from now until the test, which will be a challenge for him too. We were told to abstain for 3 days but no more than 5 days. After this, we just have to wait for CD 1 so I can schedule my HSG and then hopefully we can start Clomid!

Re: SA tips/advice

  • I just tried to give my husband space and not really talk to him about it. It made him more nervous if we had to talk about it.

    Good luck!!!
  • :-) no tips here, just good luck wishes.  DH is going to do the same thing on the 11th. Lucky him, lol. Fingers crossed you don't have a CD1 for nine months  :)>-

  • I don't really have any advice. My DH was very "whatever, it's got to be done" about it. He didn't mind at all. Hope you guys get good results!

  • Does he get to do it at home? Or it has to be done in office? Honestly, I asked Alan how he felt about it, he was a little closed off about it. So I backed off. We talked about it after. He was scared. My best advice is try to gage where he is at. If you want to send a suggestive picture to him to show your support, do that. Sometimes support doesn't have to be so aggressive.
  • Is he allowed to do it at home or does he have to go into the office? My husband was relieved to be able to do it at home.

I really didn't talk to him much about it. We joked a little at first when I brought him home the little brown bag with the cup, but after that I just followed his lead. If he wanted to bring it up the need talk about it. Otherwise I just let him do his thing, so to speak.

  • We didn't really talk about it at all other than about scheduling. It can be a lot of pressure so I just tried to make like it wasn't a big deal. We joked about it afterwards and then it was every month during treatment so it just became normal.

  • It is a ton of pressure for the boys. I just let DH know that if he got there and didn't feel like it not to worry, we could easily reschedule for another time. He told me later that took the pressure off. (We all know I would have been supremely disappointed, but I had to say something... He was so nervous)

  • DH really didn't want to go get his done at all.  Finally he just told me to make the appt and he would go, but he wasn't happy about it.  It is embarrassing for them, so I tried to not push it too much (even though I really really wanted him to get it done!).
