AW: We're Team...

PINK!

I'm very excited, and DH is a little upset/nervous because he was so determined to have a boy.. but his ass will have to snap out of it (:  Everything looked great on the u/s. The Dr. told me my first set of blood results are good, except I have GBS and he doesn't want to give me antibiotics until after labor. I received a lot of answers today, and I'm feeling much more confident about things.

Waiting on my baby girl <3 EDD 2/5/14

I do, let me see if I can figure out how to upload it

  • Yay! Congrats. Won't you need to get antibiotics during labor if you're GBS positive not after? I understand them not treating it in advance but after labor seems weird as well.

I found it strange as well. My mom, who's also a Dr., wants me to start being treated right away. I'm glad you noticed that as well and if anyone has any advice on this, please let me know.

  • I would definitely question the antibiotics.  The whole point of getting them during labor is not to pass it on to the baby.  I had a GBS UTI, and they would have treated me with antibiotics if I had delivered vaginally (I opted for a c/s).

Congrats on your baby girl!  I was disappointed at first that we were having a boy, but I got over it and I love him more than anything.

  • Congratulations! I think having two little girls would be so much fun!

I was GBS positive as well, but for some reason I thought they tested for this much later in pregnancy. Getting the antibiotics during labor wasn't fun,but not the end of the world either.

I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love.
  • Congratulations on team PINK!

I tested positive at like 16 weeks for GBS, but my doctor said they wouldn't treat me because the "count" was under 10,000 (it was at like 3,000). She said that if I still tested positive a few weeks before delivery, I'd be treated during labor, no matter what the "count" was, as it can be passed onto the baby during a vaginal delivery.

It is my understanding that the test is only good for four weeks, so I'd have to be tested again at the end of my pregnancy. I'd ask your doctor some more questions regarding that...

  • Yay on team pink :)

I am of no help but when I got my GBS test, they also said if it was positive I would need antibiotics during labor not after.

Maybe you should ask your doctor again. Good luck with it :)
  • Yay for team pink! Your DH will come around. Mine was a little surprised it was a girl at first an didn't know what to think, but he's been getting more and more excited about it as we get closer to meeting her. Getting her nursery ready I think was when he really got excited. :)

  • Thank you ladies for the great advice! It will definitely be a question I bring up at my next appointment at the end of the month. My Dr. is rarely clear about things he tells me and I have to end up pulling it out of him. I had to make him go over my blood test results because he had no intention of doing so. I would consider going to another Dr. even, but my options are very limited w/ my insurance so I'm trying to work with what I have.

  • Maybe your doctor meant that you would get antibiotics after labor started as opposed to getting antibiotics now.

  • YAYA for a baby girl!! Congrats.

and your DH will get over it:)

  • Congratulations on your daughter! I tested positive for GBS at 34 weeks and I got penicillin in an IV during labor.

I also had a recurring GBS infection for 8 weeks after delivery so I had a few more rounds of antibiotics.

  • I agree with @BackseatDriver. I just had the GBS test and conversation with my doctor today and if I am positive he will administer antibiotics during labor as the point is not to pass it on to LO during birth, not the concern for mommy.

    Congrats on team Pink!!
