Government Shutdown

Anyone here affected by it? Mana I believe you work on base too. H just went to work to find out what the deal was and to get a notice. He knew this was going to happen but were not sure how long he has to stay. He heard rumors that his organization has enough money to keep running for a few days and pay everyone but were not sure if he gets to come back home or stay at work.

Re: Government Shutdown

  • We were told Friday we were not exempt and signed our furlough notice yesterday just in case. My boss emailed me the notice to sign and send back since I was on vacation.

I have a friend in another organization that had to go in today for 4 hours to close down.

When the govt shut down in the 90s the employees got paid back... I wouldn't bank on it, but it's possible.

We decided to cancel our anniversary plans this weekend. Which is fine. We'll go out to eat and come back to try our cake top out.

I'm not affected directly but I find it very irritating that Congress still gets paid through this period. They were the ones who couldn't get it together yet they still get paid their ridiculously high salaries but good people, like Mana and S, who have been doing their jobs, are negatively affected? It makes no sense to me but then again, I'm a simple girl.

    Preach it girl!

If I didn't do my job, I get fired... Just saying.

  • S said he will likely have to stay. His organization feels like they have enough money left to keep everyone paid for the next 2-3 days. He said a lot of people are annoyed because some people get to stay home and likely get back pay but I wouldnt bank on it. At least if hes at work he knows hes getting paid.

  • Ready for some irony?  I've been teaching a unit on government and today's lesson was all about the 3 branches and how they work together...

  • I'm not affected, but just wanted to say I hope this is short lived for those of you who are!
