  • I was on the pill to regulate cycles since they've always been wacky. We did try condoms a few times but I had an allergic reaction to the latex.... I think we'll end up sticking to the pill for now.
Congrats to my TTC buddy Madeline! Cheering for all the strong 3T ladies!

  • We haven't used any protection for like 7 years now. Prior to that we used condoms. Given our history I don't think birth control will ever be something we use again.

  • Diaphragm, then prior to that Nuvaring, then prior to that the pill! Diaphragm is by far our preferred method.

  • @Goodwolf I've been using a diaphragm since we stopped TTC and I actually like it more than I thought I would. Much better than condoms, IMO.

  • I started out with the pill (low-dose). Then I got dumped from my parent's insurance, and since I had no prescription coverage, we used condoms. Then once I had insurance again I was back on the pill for a while, but thanks to changes in formulary lists and hating the generic options I had, I switched to Nuvaring, which I really liked.

Because my cycles are so varying, I'd most likely go back to the Nuvaring if we were 100% done with TTC. I wouldn't go on it between pregnancies, because there's just too much uncertainty with getting reregulated once you go off it, but I'd definitely want the regularity of those cycles if we were completely done with having (more) kids.

  • @Flamingo86 - I totally agree, because it doesn't interfere with 'sensation', you can put it in ahead of time and at least sort of be spontaneous, and you don't have to worry about it for a while afterwards. Just make sure you use lots of spermicide, make sure it's sealed around your cervix and you'll be good to go! (I'm sure you're already doing those things, I just had to say it for anyone else reading ;) I've known people who use it w/o spermicide... wha??) We used it successfully for 2.5 years, and friends of ours used it for 5+.

  • I was on the pill for 8 years, and got off because I would spot the entire month. Then we switched to a mix of condoms and diaphragm for about 2 months till we got NFP down. Then I didn't have any regular cycles to be able to use NFP, so we started to TTC because we knew our chances were slim. I will likely never get back on BC, because the side affects weren't worth it.

  • I went on the pill at 15 due to very irregular periods. I switched to NuvaRing the year it came out... so like 4-5 years ago? I experienced a lot of break through on the pill but none on the ring. I don't know if I will ever go back to hormonal BC, it wrecked havoc on my sex drive.

  • Nuvaring. I tried about five different brands of pills over the years and couldn't handle them. The hormones killed my stomach, so I had to switch to a BC option that wouldn't pass through my stomach. Nuvaring was my first choice and I mostly liked it, except that it killed my libido.

It could be that my insurance wouldn't cover it until then. That sounds more accurate to me.

  • I looooved the nuvaring! It was super expensive though (like $40 a pop! yes, less expensive than a child, but I digress.) so I switched to cheapy sprintec that was $30 for 3 months.

It's weird how BCP makes so many people feel crazy. It always made me feel more level than not. Huh. Put that one under "what works for one may not work for another" lol.
  • I did pills until we were married, and then we did NFP to avoid for the first year.  Apparently that wasn't needed, as we've been using NFP to TTC for two years with no success.
