Government Shutdown

Anyone here affected?

Re: Government Shutdown

  • Thankfully, no

  • I'm only mildly affected but I'm treating it like it's a BFD because I'm a bit theatrical.

  • So far, no.  I work for the state, and we have a lot of Federal programs and work pretty closely with the EPA on a bunch of things, but so far I haven't seen any effects.
  • I'm not yet, but this is going to cause a major delay in awarding contracts for 2014 and that will definitely be a probelm for me. Luckily MH is considered essential, so he is ok for now.

  • DH's agency has enough money to keep running until next week. All bets are off after that  :-/

Yes. Not majorly, fortunately. I am just keeping my fingers crossed they figure this out before it really causes negative impacts. A couple of days is bad- but a couple of months could be completely devastating to families.

  • I'm not but I am using it as an excuse for anything that goes wrong.  Damn government shut down!

  • DH and I are both state employees.  Fortunately we aren't affected yet. If it goes on too long I suppose we could be but as of right now we're fine.

  • Not directly.  But no government employees = no gov't travel which is a big deal for my company.

  • It's only messing with vacation plans for us.  That's just a minor inconvenience though.
  • Not yet, at least. I work for the state. Our federal funding is shut down, but it thankfully doesn't affect my job that much. Other people in my immediate section have definitely been dealing with it.

DH is also on military orders which kind of worries me, but it looks like they'll continue to be paid at this point (not that they bother to pay him in the first place, but that's another can of worms).

  • While my contracts are directly impacted - I can still work - a lot of my clients are furloughed.  Which means that I've been loaded up with tasks with the hope that the shut-down ends before I've finished them.

  • MIL is considered a non-essential employee so there's that.

Nope, since any government funding for our museum was cut years ago.  I am going to be epically cheesed if this is still going on in a month when I travel to DC for work and have some serious time to kill while I'm there.

EDIT: I just realized that if the shutdown lasts beyond a month I won't have any reason to go to DC because my interview subject won't need to go to DC since the Veteran's Memorial won't be able to air her documentary.  AUGH!

  • Not really, thank goodness. I am so irritated with our government right now though. I wish I kept up with things better in the news so that I would at least understand all this better.

  • I work for local govt. so I'm not directly impacted. Luckily I took care of lots of things we communicate with Federal agencies with ahead of the shutdown. We might be delayed in receiving some grant funding for the year, but they're always so slow I might not even notice- especially if they resume work in the next week or two.
