Thursday randoms

Re: Thursday randoms

  • I've been letting my hair grow for a few months, and it's right around my shoulders now...but then yesterday I saw someone with a super cute short cut and I am dying to chop it off now.  I will restrain myself until at least next month, because I want to be able to pull it back at disney or it will drive me crazy.  But this is a similar cut to what I saw yesterday and I might take the plunge once we're back from our trip:

I'm growing mine out too. I have been getting it cut short for the last 6 years or so. I keep seeing cute short cuts and questioning my growing out too! Although I think I am going to try to do it all winter and see how I feel in the spring.

  • I love that cut!  I think you should definitely take the plunge.  I have been debating a short(er) hair cut too, shorter than I've ever gone.  I've only gotten as far as pinning a few cuts.  I'm worried I won't be able to pull it of, plus my hair is so thin, I don't think it will end up looking the way that I want it to look.

I have fine hair too and I've hair my hair as short at that pic and had no problems styling it.  I find that it's easier to keep my hair looking good (through the day) if it's shorter.  I think because it's not weighed down by the length.  That's a really cute cut!

My random: Im kind of annoyed at dd's kindergarten teacher. So far they haven't had any homework. Way back at orientation she had mentioned homework would start in Oct but no mention exactly when. I assumed she would give us a heads up that it would be coming soon. She sends home a newsletter every week so figured it would mention in there. But nothing yet.

Last night was really busy and we forgot to check dd's folder before she went to bed. I checked it afterwards and sure enough yesterday was her first homework asssignment. Ugh! I will know to expect it from now on. But it would have been nice to be expecting it the very first time. I always check her folder and the 1 night I don't!! And I checked it but just after bed.

So had to have her do it this morning. Not a huge deal but mornings are
    crazy enough!

I feel like Im a fairly with it and attentive parent and I feel like Im always missing something screwing something up with school stuff!!

  • I have been seriously considering chopping my hair for months. I have an appt. tonight. And it has been so gross lately, I think that it needs a chop. Plus, all I do is pull it up since I am totally longer hair inept.

BUT my brother is going to be getting engaged and the rumor is a wedding next fall. My hair grows soooo slow and I would want to be able to wear it up. ugh.

We've been having similar issues with DD's preschool.  They send home a calendar, so I've been consulting the calendar for what she needs to do/bring.  They also put notes in their folders.   Well, earlier this week then sent an email saying to bring an apple to make apple sauce--it wasn't on the calendar or in the folder and we missed it.  Pick your form of communication and stick with it!

  • I swear, having kids in school is a whole job in itself! Gavin had off last Friday for parent-teacher conferences. Ok, no problem. Then I found out on Tuesday that he's off tomorrow, too, for in-service. Gah! I can't keep up.

I'm thankful that DH has come home "early" twice this week and has helped Gavin with homework. I have a business trip to NYC in 10 days and I'm kind of scared to leave DH in charge of everything school-related.

My vent is this stomach bug that is going around. We're on round 2 of it - and in the second week of it. The doctor ordered going off dairy for Sean right now - his diapers have been ridiculously bad. Thankfully, he's not affected any other way at the moment, but it's been nasty to deal with. Poor bugger.

  • All of the tile is in for the floor of our bathroom.  You guys, this construction has been going on since MARCH.   As soon as he grouts it, we can drop in the toilet and the vanity/sink.  Do you know how much I will appreciate having a 2nd working toilet in the house again?   DH is doing a great job (and he's saved us thousands of dollars by doing it all himself) and it's hard fitting it in between work and other things we have going on, so I really don't say much to him about it taking so damn long.  But, I think when it's completely done I may just sit down and have a good cry!
  • Party at Amber's house for the new bathroom unveiling!!!!!!!!!

My favorite "updo"  for a wedding was when I had short hair.  It's amazing what they can do!

I agree with the hair thing. You can still get a really nice "up do" with shortish hair.

Amber, I totally understand. When Steve and my dad were doing our master bedroom/bathroom it was an 18 month process, and took up so much of his free time. With the amout of work he did, we probably saved $15K in labor, but I was ready for him to be done about 9 months before he was. I'll throw a party for you, as a fellow remodeling widow :)

Oh, I totally understand. The worst part of ours was that I never got to use our brand new bathroom. I hope the new owners love it, I sure do.

  • Thanks everyone for commiserating, it makes me feel better.  And Emmy, I'm totally having a "The bathroom is done" party!   I'm going to tell everyone to drink a lot of water before they come over!  HA!

I'll thow one for you too, as our den and bathroom in the old house took 15 months to complete. Again, thankful for the handy husband, but so glad to have that room back for my sanity - I mean, for the boys to takeover as a playroom!

    Enjoy!

  • I recently chopped all my hair off into a similar style as the one you posted Emmy. Do it! You'll love it! My hair was nearly down to my elbows and in horrid shape. It felt so good to cut it off.

As I mentioned on the board before I've really been trying to exercise patience with G. I'm really proud of myself for following through. I've not snapped out once. I just need to get my under the breath muttering under control now :)

Casey's movie is almost over. I cannot wait to have some help with G and around the house again! Woo hoo!

I bought 2 pairs of jeans at Old Navy (online). They're the same size but different fits. They're both HUGE - like I don't have to unzip or unbutton them to get them off. I really need new jeans. I'm so disappointed.

I have to find time this weekend to shop for something to wear for our pictures that are scheduled next Saturday. I was hoping the jeans would knock out one thing and all I would have to buy is a shirt. Ugh.

I wanted to do a few shots of us in our pea coats - mine is emerald green, Casey's is charcoal gray, and G's is black. Is that hokey?

I bought my first pair of old navy jeans last month and I actually really like them.  What style did you get?  I have tried their jeans in the past and they were always too big and didn't look right(even in the smallest size).  I bought the rock star demi boot cut and they worked out really well for me.  They actually run small and I had to size up, which is odd because everything else at old navy is giant on me.

I think the peacoat picture would be really cute!  I got a pair of Rock N Republic jeans at Kohl's recently and I REALLY like them a lot!  It's hard to find the right pair.

I like Rock N Republic jeans too!  I bought a pair of skinnies last fall and they're the only skinnies that looked good on me.  I like that they hold their shape and don't get saggy and baggy.
