Re: QOTD 10/3

  • Probably the benefits.  We have great insurance (health savings, vision, dental), matching 401K up to 5%, and plenty of vacation and sick leave.

  • I'm a bitter senior graduate student, so I see nothing positive about my "job" right now LOL.

I guess the good thing is that we get paid to go to school...not a lot, but you can live comfortably in upstate NY because of the low cost of living. We also get free health insurance, it's kind of crappy but it does the job. I also got to travel to 1 conference a year, I've been to D.C. twice, Chicago, San Diego, and San Francisco.

  • We have great benefits and I love that I get to travel with my company. I also really like the work I do, I find it satisfying. If only I was paid a little better!

  • The hours!  I love that I never have to drive in rush hour. I think I'd have a total meltdown if I did. Getting to work at 6 may be early, but I'm usually home (albeit with a pile of papers or lesson plans) by 3:30.

  • For me it's the holidays. We get 12. Our pension is pretty good too. Both DH and I got in before they made major changes to it.

  • I'm one of the owners so there are a ton of benefits!  Insurance is 100% paid by the company, we make our own hours, I determine how much I get paid, and tons more.

  • I get a lot of paid time off!
  • Probably the benefits (insurance 100% covered for me and h,which means we get paid out from his employer for opting out; 401k matching to 4%), and the ability to bank comp time.

I am changing my answer. One of my students just brought me a cupcake. Cupcake wins.

  • I get to leave right at 5 every day.  I don't know any other lawyers who get to do that!
    image
  • I get to snuggle babies! Not every night, but more often than not I get to! Also, I accrue vacation time pretty quickly (9.82 hours every two weeks) so I am able to bank a lot of vacation time. I'll be able to receive about 3/4 pay during maternity leave for the whole 12 weeks!
  • Making a difference in at least one person's life every day.  Summers off.

@JennaBirdtheBride I love when kids bring me cupcakes!  I always tell my kids that's why I became a teacher and they laugh.
  • @sjs1013, That's a good one! :) What grade(s)/subject(s) do you teach?

  • Benefits and I can pretty much make my own schedule during the school year. I also get paid vacations and 2 weeks of paid holiday a year.

  • @Nic12184 I feel ya!  I too am a "bitter grad student"  In in semester two of a four year MA program.

But, like you said.  They pay my entire tuition sooo, it's a free master's degree.  I also get a stipend.  It's not much, but it's more than I was making before I started the program (I wasn't working in my field after undergrad).

I also get to work on some really cool book projects.  :)
