NBR: It's officially October in my time zone

I'm so excited for constant horror movies (clown free, of course), parties, costumes, haunted houses, and my annual rereading of Pet Sematary.

Still haven't figured out this year's costume. Not sure if we're doing a couples theme or individual ideas. My corgi is definitely getting a costume, too.

What are you guys doing? What about the kids?
I write sexy books. I read all the books. I love dresses & macarons.

I'm excited that it's October because it's DS's first birthday next week!  We both survived!

DS is going to be a dinosaur this year. This is the costume he'll be wearing.

  • I'm not sure what we are doing since we move the week before halloween. I will be moving my pumpkins but prob not carving them.
Alex has two costume options. A monkey or winnie the pooh. I have to convince mh to dress up as christopher robin and find Remy a Tigger costume.
  • I love halloween!
We just got DD's costume over the weekend.  She's going to be a monkey.  I was thinking of making her an owl costume, but then I was honest with myself and realized that I probably wouldn't get it done in time, and would stress myself out over it.  Plus, when we were in Marshall's a couple of weeks ago, she completely flipped out over this monkey costume, and she flipped out over it again when we went back this weekend, so we just got it for her.
DH and I aren't planning to dress up, unless someone invites us to a halloween party.
So far the only scary plans we have is that we're doing a ghost tour in Newport toward the end of the month.
  • I've had my Halloween and fall decorations up for a week and a half already. I decided against pumpkin carving and wrapped some twinkle lights around my pumpkins this year. (Thanks Pinterest!) I really like how it looks. I have flashing eyeballs in my bushes and one of those witches that ties around a tree to look like she ran into it. I'm going to make a few more of the breast cancer pumpkins to hand out again this year.
No costume ideas yet. The only thing I know is I don't have to be a nurse again this year (I'm off work and very excited about it. Halloween in a hospital is like a full moon on steroids).

  • Hopefully this October will be ok.  My birthday is next week.  :::yawn:::   I'm not big on birthdays.  Then Thanksgiving the week after.  My husband will be working, so it will just be me and my daughter.   So I'm not thinking I'll be making a turkey.   Maybe we'll do a fancy ladies brunch by the water or something.

The adults in our family don't dress up for Halloween....  but our girl is going to be Marie Antoinette.  She's obsessed with that woman.  Last year she said "I would like to visit Marie Antoinette's house."  (So we booked a trip to Paris and made a stop at Versailles en route to Morocco.)

Hrmph.  Maybe that's why this October is not exciting me that much.  Last year we were traveling the entire month.  This year?  Not doing a darn thing!

Although my daughter has decided that she wants to see where Leonardo da Vinci lived and worked.  So maybe we'll have to work on making that happen! lol.

  • I love October! I'm so excited for fall temps, the leaves changing color and falling, the smells. Pumpkin patches, fire pits, chasing Jack around outside. Jack is going to be the superhero Flash and Brynne is going to be a pumpkin for Halloween.

  • October is so awesome! We're going to a Halloween party this year where a majority of my friends will be dressing up as HP characters.  DH and I are going as Luna Lovegood and Sirius Black.  I'm fast at work on my scarf and lion hat.  We have friends going as Bellatrix, Ron, Ginny, a Snitch, and MAYBE a Mad Eye Moody.

Bella is going to be a Bee for Halloween and Wylie is going to be a Dinosaur.  I love dressing my dogs up!

  • The weather is still in the mid-90s here, but I am excited for fall!

This year DH and I are going to be Mary Poppins and Bert from the sidewalk sequence in Mary Poppins, and Ally and Charlie are going to be penguins.  I've got everyone's costume planned out but mine - I have no idea how I am going to pull this off!

Georgie has asked to be the little girl from Mary Poppins.  My brother tried to talk him into being Bert, but his heart is set on being the little girl.

  • I'll be working until 2 a.m. again on Halloween but we're having a costume contest at work and I'm going to scrounge the thrift shops the next couple of weekends and try to put together an Effie Trinket costume. I'm excited!

The weekend before Halloween, my 2 best friends and I are having a Halloween pajama party. We're going to drink wine (well, the 2 of us that aren't pregnant will) and eat delicious snacks and watch Hocus Pocus, Practical Magic and Witches of Eastwick.

ETA: I haven't decided on A's costume yet, but I'm thinking sock monkey. We'll see. I won't be dressing up.

  • I can't even express how much I dislike Halloween, but I love October because it's my kid's birth month. I also like all the fall themed drinks with the exception of the PSL because um, ew.

I'm going to miss the long days though, I almost always end up going into a funk during October because the days feel so short.

  • I love October! Not as much as November and December, but it's up there :)

We're going to the pumpkin festival next weekend to take pictures of our munchkin. He's going to be Popeye for Halloween!

  • I freakin love October.  DH's birthday is this month, too.  :)  I'm going as Luna Lovegood this year.  Trying to get as much mileage out of the Ravenclaw robe as possible.

What the French, toast? Halloween is my most favorite of all holidays. And P.S. Happy birthday, princess!

  • I love the fall, but cannot stand Halloween.  I'll be hiding in my basement, as I do every year, with the lights out and a good movie on, ignoring all those pesky little trick or treaters and eating my own candy.

So far we've still had pretty warm weather, but it's supposed to start raining and bring a cold front this weekend.

@Skeezon - I am not a fan of holidays that feature children hopped up on sugar and mischief who try and deliberately scare me. I am also not a fan of being scared. Or the dark. Or clowns. Halloween is the day that all of these things usually come to pass.

@MrsC7 - Me too. :-( It's going to be dark at like, 4pm now. Boo.

I am looking forward to going to a pumpkin patch soon. Fall is my favorite part of the year. I can't wait until I can get a good pumpkin shake. I just wish it was a bit cooler so I could enjoy a nice hot apple cider.

On the costume front I don't know if I will have to work or if I will be able to dress up this year. I hope to find out soon so I can plan. Until then my friend has asked me to make a costume for his middle daughter. She is going to be Harley. I am kind of excited. I have already made a Snow White and a Repunzel costume this year.image

That is my niece in the first picture and the second dress was for my other niece. Don't mind the dork in the second picture. I thought my husband had taken a close up of the dress.

  • I'm a few days late to this, because it's been a crazy week.  And I just redid my costume decision for the year.

My original plan was left over from last year when I ended up out of town for Halloween. It was Daenerys Targaryen in Qarth. I have a blonde wig, a poseable stuffed dragon (Toothless, because he's black and cute), and a dress that kind of implies one of my boobs could be exposed Qarth-style, but isn't:
    image image image

However, we have an office Halloween party, and I work on a programming team. Running around as a blonde fantasy icon in a midriff-baring outfit didn't sound like a good idea. So for the office party, I will be asking people "What does the fox say?"

(I expect everyone to pick up on this because a) they're all nerds, and b) the video is actually from here in Norway.)

  • We throw a Halloween party every year.  So is going to be Merida (from Brave), Claire is going to be Minnie Mouse.  I don't know about me.  I am kind of in love with those ginormous foam wig dealies from Target.
