Budget Spreadsheet

A lot of you talk about using spreadsheets for your budget/to track your spending. Where might I see some examples of this or is there a way for you to post yours? I would really like to see how this works. I am pretty good with money, we have an e-fund/savings (its not really separate at this point but we dont really dip into it) of about 16,000, but I am not super good at tracking spending. Thanks in advance!

Re: Budget Spreadsheet

  • Try spendingprofile.com

You can connect your bank statements to it and you can keep track of how much you spend in categories such as diining out, groceries, car payments, etc

  • I'll try to remember to post my template. But it's literally "total take home pay" at the top, then deduct bills from highest to smallest, "mortgage, daycare, food/groceries, savings, gas, bills" etc.
  • I just use Excel. I put our take home pay at the top, and then do a list of all the different bills and areas we budget for, and then do a cell that has the sum total of all of that. It's really easy to play around with and change the costs of things because then the total price shows up and you can see how far above or under you are and fix accordingly. I have another spreadsheet I use to keep track of how much in each area we are spending, like how much of the 400 for food we've spent. I check it almost daily while at work so I always know where we're at!

  • I had just Googled an Excel budget spreadsheet and downloaded a template that worked for us.

This is what I did, and the edited it to add more funds- we are very specific though in how we budget. I have a cleaning fund, hair care fund, craft fund, etc. Some of these are very tiny, but it works for us.

  • Here's a quick screen shot of mine, but I've added groceries/food, DH gym and Netflix, which I just considered "extra" before, because with groceries we're smart and aren't wasteful so we just bought what we wanted but never went crazy.
