I dropped my Kindle last night and the screen froze. My husband took it apart, and the inside screen is shattered.
I'm so bummed.

Contact Amazon Customer Support. They may be able to offer you a replacement or a discount even if the warranty is expired.

Kindle Customer Support is seriously amazing. It never hurts to ask.

ETA: apparently cracked screens are a known problem with Kindles.

I was also going to recommend trying to find a replacement screen. I know my DH has been able to find iPod screens for as little as $10.

Though, if my 1st gen nook broke, I may use that as an excuse to upgrade to the ST w/glolight I've been coveting since it came out.

The same thing happened to my kindle about a year ago. I second @mrsc7 though because they offered me a discount on a replacement or upgrade. Hope this means you get a shiny new upgrade!

Thanks for the love. I knew you ladies would understand how terrible this is. I'm actually looking on Craig's list because although an upgrade would be nice...I really like the Kindle Keyboard and the don't make them anymore.

Call Amazon. They may have a refurb keyboard. My e-ink got messed up in my keyboard & when I called, they did have keyboards available at that time.
