NT Scan Question

Did all of you do it or are you planning to do it?  Since I am out of pocket for these things and I know this test is considered optional, I just wanted to see if all of you ladies had it done.  :-)

Re: NT Scan Question

  • We did but only because we had insurance. I just wanted to see the baby.

  • I definitely wanted this done but it was covered by my insurance. This is an expensive scan if you are OOP. I would call around for pricing and see if there is a discount if you pay up front for the full amount. Or you could look into the cost of MaterniT21 testing if you are interested in finding out about risk for chromosome problems like Down syndrome.

I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love.
  • All screening for genetic conditions is optional. Maybe your doctor could also review the differences in detection rates and "false positives" with the other screening tests like the serum integrated test which should be much less expensive. Mine had a pamphlet comparing all the screening tests.

  • We opted out both times since we decided we wouldn't do anything differently and the anatomy scan would give us plenty of time to prepare for most things.

  • I'm doing it because of my age and because I just have a co-pay for it. Otherwise I probably would not as I didn't with DS.

  • I did it. I wanted to make sure that everything was progressing as it should... But ours was mostly covered by insurance too.

This is basically what we decide to do as well. It was covered by insurance, but my midwife said that the wait time for the results would make me more anxious than it was worth. We wouldn't terminate either way, and the a/s would pick up on anything major. If that was the only option to see baby, we would have, but she wanted us to do a dating u/s since my LMP didn't make sense. This was scheduled for 11.5 weeks so we did that instead.
Congrats to my TTC buddy Madeline! Cheering for all the strong 3T ladies!

  • I did it, but I don't know that we would have had we had to pay for it OOP. I do not regret it, though it did cause some scares because the measurement was bigger than they would have liked and (along with my quad screening) gave me a 1:130 chance of DS. This lead to doing the Harmony test, as well. Next time, I'd go straight to the Harmony test if they will cover it.

But for me, it wasn't a matter of whether or not we would terminate if the results were bad... rather, we wanted to be prepared for all possibilities so we could make the best decisions for our family.

  • I am so glad we had the NT scan done because it was at that time the doctors found Liam's club feet.  It helped us to prepare for things like buying gowns and asking people to not purchase footed outfits because of his feet.  I know his condition wasn't a huge concern, but if it wasn't found at the NT scan, we could have gone a much longer time without knowing.  Plus, it was one more time seeing the baby.  :)

  • we did it and we would do it again, however it was covered by insurance (at the usual coinsurance rate). I don't know if we would have done it if it were OOP. If we were rich, I would!

  • We did it. It was covered by out insurance. We did it because I'm a complete nervous nelly and needed to hear for myself that everything was okay.

  • I don't know what we're going to do.  It won't change anything for us, but I think I would be less anxious if I knew everything was OK.
  • We did it. We wanted to know if there was a problem so we could prepare ourselves accordingly, or we wanted to know the chances of a problem were small so we could relax a bit.
    image
  • I don't think we will choose to do it. My insurance is finicky about what it does and doesn't cover, and this is one of those that they will not cover unless it's medically necessary.  So we will likely opt out.
