S/O NaNo... who's in?!

I've been planning to do it but have felt nervous because I had no real plot or characters. This morning I was tossing and turning and got it. So now I'm super excited.

Who else is in? Do you have your story idea yet?

  • Oh! Forgot to mention: my husband says he's doing it too and he's really pumped. He's been talking about doing it for years but is buckling down this year.

Me for sure! I'm not planning on starting something new - I have a PNR MS I've been working on that only has 20K words down, so I'll be adding 50K to that. And hopefully finishing with a novel.

  • I wish I could. I just have too many other things going on right now to plan something. And if I don't have a plan, it's a total waste of time.

  • Me!  I've been noodling a historical dystopian (is that even a genre?) for a year in my head. It's time to put it on paper (er, Word doc?)

  • lol, I love "historical dystopian".

  • I haven't had a "spark" yet.. Still waiting.  If I get it, then I'm definitely in.

  • I think maybe I'll bust out my laptop tonight and look back at the ideas and starts that I had going.  I'll start thinking about them a little more and see if I can get something fleshed out in my head.  If something comes together in the next week or two, I'll do it.
  • I want to, but I don't think I will. I have a YA series concept floating around in my head, but I finally finished the MS I've been working on for nearly 3 years so I really want to edit it and find some CPs before I start working on anything new.

  • @pinkybooklover09 ---> CP right here. :)

  • Ditto what Y_L said: I wish I had time.

I've tried NaNo twice. The first time I broke my wrist one week in. The second time I didn't go in with a clear vision of the story I wanted to write and that left me frustrated. I gave up after two weeks. I will complete this one day. Maybe next year.

    Good luck to everyone!
I write sexy books. I read all the books. I love dresses & macarons.

  • I'm going NaNo rogue this year. I'm working on a total rewrite of an old project and I'm going to use November to add 35k+ to it and hopefully finish this draft by the end of the year.

  • How cool that your DH is joining in too! Paul signed up last year and got started with me, but work kind of got in the way and he stopped part way through.

@MrsC7, I like the idea of historical dystopian. The Bone Season was kind of like that, not historical exactly, but alternate present with historical elements brought in

  • I'm thinking about not doing NaNoWriMo but a variation of it to knock some poems and short stories floating around.  It's like dipping my toe in, right?

  • I'm in this year. Third year, maybe I'll finish this time!

I'm doing a sort of romantic comedy this time, which is so different from the fantasy based stories I usually do.

  • I'm in. I just need to decide which project gets to be the object of my obsession this year.

  • I think I might do the HolNoWriMo alternative thing this year. November is so busy for us and last year I won but I feel like I wrote crap and I about lost my mind. So I may try this...but I can't commit to the idea of abandoning Nano proper so I don't know.
