What are you proud of?

There's been a lot of sadness on the board, and that sucks. When I feel blue it helps to think of things that I have accomplished and am proud of. AW yourself and list 4-5 things you are personally proud of.

  • I would never have thought to teach myself to knit from a book. (and I look to books for EVERYTHING) that's super! (all the other stuff is super too) @Flamingo86

  • 1. I am a good wife and person.
    2. I have worked very hard in the last year+ to help abused and abandoned dogs, including fostering and rescuing.
    3. I am a talented musician and artist (in the loosest terms aka with baking and some painting). I never in my life thought that I could learn to paint and am glad I surprised myself.
    4. I am an amazing friend.  I will do whatever it takes to make you feel safe, happy and accepted. Not having to work these last few months has given me the time to really up my game in the friendship dept and I'm so thankful that I've been able to do more for my friends.
    5. I'm pretty handy around the house and think I have a pretty decent eye for decorating. It makes me happy.

  • I'm proud of a lot of stuff but the problem is that most of it is in the past...

    1) I was valedictorian of my high school class.

    2) I was a princess at a local festival.

    3) I achieved a level 10 on piano in college and gave an awesome 45 minute recital completely from memory.

  • 1.i am proud of my career. I love seeing my clients change their lives, and being there to witness the process.
    2. I'm proud of DH. A little over a year ago, he quit his job ad completely changed careers. He is also doing very well, and we have been able to pay off student loans faster than would have been possible before.
    3. I'm proud that I moved away from my family. It has helped me grow so much since we have been in Texas. While I want to move back in a few years, it has been a great experience for my independence and our relationship.
    4. I am proud of my craftiness , and my ability to recreate something I saw in a catalog for much less.

  • @Flamingo86 I'm very impressed with your triathlons!
@DangerMuffin23 You made me tear up about rescuing dogs. I really admire that, and I wish there were more people like you.
@Uptowngirl2009 I don't think anyone would disagree, a 45 minute recital from memory is amazing!
@abt8113 That is so awesome that you can take pride in your career!
@Xan921 Your weight loss journey is so inspiring!

     Things I take pride in...
    1. I am a darn good self-taught knitter/crocheter. I had a successful Etsy shop for two years before I had to close it (I don't have time to do anything other than personal projects anymore)
    2. I never thought I would be a runner. I've completed three half-marathons and a handful of other shorter races in the last two years.
    3. I am a vegetarian (never thought that would happen), and generally eat very healthy. I take pride in the overhaul I've done on my health in the past two years, and I love feeling great.
    4. I'm proud of DH and I for buckling down and paying off our student loans in less than two years on a tight budget.
    5. I'm proud of my marriage, and that we make our relationship priority.

    Looking good @aimothy!

@goodwolf way to go with the half marathons! I've toyed with the idea of signing up for one. I've tried to be a runner but am not very good at it. That's why I did triathlons. Only 1/3 of it is running!  the other 2/3rds is biking, which is actually fun, and just trying not to drown. Also, that's awesome about the student loans. Did you follow any particular plan? We did the Dave Ramsey plan to pay off debt and are currently coordinators for one of his classes.

  • @Flamingo86 I sink like a rock when I try to swim (admittedly, I'm way too tense when I swim), otherwise I would love to do a tri! They look so fun. We followed Dave Ramsey as well! 100% of my income goes towards loans. We were planning on getting them all paid off before TTC, but we only have $5K left so... here we are. We should be done in the next couple of months. I can't wait to have that monkey off our backs. We can't follow his plan for paying cash for a car, because our one car ('90 civic... a classic) went belly up and we just didn't have the savings to pay cash for a new, reliable car. I kind of hate that, but it is what it is. We wouldn't be where we are today without following his plan for the most part, so I'm thankful for that! That's awesome you guys are DR coordinators, I'd like to become more of a resident 'expert' as well ;)

  • 1) I quit smoking cold turkey almost 3 years ago. If I would have been a smoker when I met DH I would have lost out.
    2) I feel like I am a good employee, I work hard and efficiently.
    3) I am a very caring person. I will go out of my way to try to make someone's day better.
    4) I try to be a very positive person, and that has made my life so much better.
    5) I'm proud of my little sister the most. After dealing with bullying and a suicide attempt, she has totally turned around. She is now part of her schools peer counselors against bullying. She also speaks out about it often on Facebook. I can't believe how much happier she is, I was afraid she would never pull through.

  • You ladies are all amazing and inspiring!!

    1) I am proud of the marriage that Tom and I have built. We both come from divorced parents and vowed that if we were going to do it, we would do it right. It's not always easy and it definitely takes compromise, but it's worth it. Oh my God, is it worth it.

    2) I am proud of the strides I have taken, and continue to take, in my career.

    3) I am proud of what a good friend I am. I have had my YaYas for over twenty years and we are all there for each other.

    4) I am proud of my capacity for hope. No matter what happens, I have hope.

    5) I am proud of my writing.

I give everything to being an Aunt. 3) I'm proud of my pup, we rescued him from a shelter and he has become the most docile loving animals you could ask for. 4) I'm proud of my house, we have been working on it for 2 years and it has all been on our own and out of our pockets. It's nice to look at it and say we did this on our own. 5) im proud of my determination... When I want something I will do and try everything I can to make t happen.

  • This is an amazing thread! Thanks for starting it, @flamingo86! You ladies are all amazing and inspiring.

    1. I am proud of my outlook. I am always to the one to find the silver lining and focus on it.
    2. I am proud of how my husband and I deal with his ex wife.  She is not a good person (badmouths him to their son, spends her child support on herself and then tells their son she can't afford school supplies, lies to the judge about everything, even though we have proof, and used to harass me about how H doesn't care about his son now that I'm in the picture). The only thing she should care about is that I love her son and treat him well, but she's never taken an interest in getting to know what kind of person I am.  H and I NEVER stoop to her level, even though it means not sticking up for ourselves in front of my stepson. He will "get it" in a few years, I hope.
    3. I am proud that I started living Paleo and have stuck to it. I lost 30lbs and have kept it off for almost a year. I feel healthier and better, overall, and don't feel guilty when I want to "live" a little (I don't call it cheating).
    4. I am proud of the relationship I have with my family and H's, despite the fact that we are so spread out, geographically. Our families are not the same, but they compliment each other so well. My sister even invited H's entire family for Thanksgiving, and she didn't even invite her own in-laws!
    5. I am proud of my ability to see other peoples' perspectives and where they are coming from, even if I disagree. I always consider someone's intent before getting upset.

  • You ladies are so awesome!!

@Aimothy - you look amazing!! Congrats on all that hard work!
@GoodWolf - congrats on being almost done with your student loans!  DH & I both have a ton (he has twice as much as I do, but he has a Masters degree to show for it and I never ended up graduating)... do you have any book or website recommendations for the plan you use? (Or do you, @Flamingo86 ?)
@PandPMeant2B - You're awesome for how you're dealing with your DH's ex... just reading what you wrote about her is making my eye twitchy.  Ugh.

    1. I am proud of myself for seeking help for myself for my depression and anxiety.  It's been a long road with lots of ups and downs but I'm finally at a point where I feel I'm doing well with my life.  I'm holding down two jobs and taking a class when two years ago I could barely function on a day to day basis.

    2. I'm proud that I recently got a raise due to the fact that I'd been "kicking a lot of ass lately" (to quote my boss)!

    3. I'm almost finished with one of my student loans!  One more month and it's gone

    4. I'm proud that I recognize there are things I need to still work on in regards to depression and anxiety and how they've affected some habits (like how much sleep I get), and I'm working to improve

  • 1. I am proud of the wonderful little man my son has become. Coming from a BSC father, he has turned out to be the sweetest, kindest, most compationate child around me. People, especially my parents, compliment us all the time on what an amazing kid he is.

    2. I am proud of my marriage as well. We have friends that try to have the kind of relationship we have and cant. My father in law even complimented me to DH and a friend that I was a wonderful wife and that he envys our relationship

    3. I am proud of my big brother. He has totally changed careers this year and he is doing so well and loving every single minute of it. He is traveling back and forth across the country doing what he loves and is quickly getting promotion after promotion.

    4. I am proud of my homemaker skills these days. Our house is on the market and we have to keep it showing ready all the time. Showings have been slow recently, but the house is still in tip top shape all the time.

@arj14 DH and I followed Dave Ramsey's plan. You can check out his website at www.daveramsey.com. There might be a class in your area that you can sign up for. The classes are great, but they do have a fee and I don't think they are entirely necessary (but helpful).  We just followed his plan as outlined in his book The Total Money Makeover (Which I highly recommend).

  • This is an amazing thread!  Sometimes I think we focus on the bad too much, and forget all of the good.

You girls have all made amazing accomplishments, and it's something you all should be proud of!

    1. I'm proud of realizing 6 years ago that I was doing very unhealthy things, and that I changed my act. I've never seen that 190lbs since, and I never want to see it again.

    2. I'm proud of both myself and my dad, that we are able to put my childhood aside and have an amazing relationship.  I know it took him a lot to apologize and change his thinking.

    3. I'm proud that I moved away at 18, despite my parents telling me not to go to college or move. I would never be the person I am today, and never would have experienced the things I did.

    4. I'm very proud of H for his money skills and work ethic. Neither one of his parents are good with money, so he did not learn money skills or work ethic from them. He's had to learn all of it on his own, and he's become an amazing person through it.

    5. I feel very fortunate with where I'm at in my life. I have a job that I love, home that is very affordable, and family that are all very close.

  • I am proud of our careers and financial situation. We have always saved, saved, saved and are at a point where we are exceeding our financial goals.

I am also very excited I was able to make someone's year yesterday. She applied for a position on my team and I was able to make her am offer yesterday that is a huge raise for her. She was flabbergasted.

  • 1) Despite intense anxiety over traveling and flying, I spent a Summer in England while in college. I flew there and back by myself. There was only a little alcohol involved, ha.

    2) I've completed 2 triathlons, and hope to do another one in the next year.

    3) I graduated college with honors despite having struggled through school and and HS before attending college.

    4) I taught myself how to knit from a library book as a way to cope with grief and loss. I'm certainly no expert, but I've come a long way and knitting, in a weird way, has helped me survive the past year.

    5) I've coped with more than I ever imagined possible throughout the last year. 3T sucks big time, but has made me a stronger person, a better wife, and hopefully someday a better mother than I would have been otherwise.

I spent a month in England when I was 18 and taught myself to crochet from a book!  Twinsies.

  • @arj14 Exactly what @Flamingo86 said, we follow Dave Ramsey's "Total Money Makeover" book. Its such a good resource, and really overhauled our thinking about finances. Our favorite quote - you have to live like no one else so that you can live like no one else. It's tough to buckle down but so worth it!
