FFQ: Moving baby out of the baby bath

At what age did you move your baby out of the baby bath and into the full tub and how did the transition go? I'm considering doing it now, but I think I need to buy a mat first so it isn't as slippery. He is all over the place and I'm worried that I'll have even more difficulty getting him to stay seated.

Re: FFQ: Moving baby out of the baby bath

  • I think we stopped using the bath seat at like5 or 6 months when she could sit independently. Now she is all over the pplace but she has a lot of fun and loves it so we just keep a close eye on her.

  • We never did a baby bath. I had a foam insert for the sink that I used for a couple months then a reclined bath seat in the regular tub. I probably stopped using the seat around 7 months when she was more stable sitting up.

  • We waited until a year only because the tub we got her was big and it was easier for us to put it on the counter and wash her than bend over our bathtub to do so.

  • Once H could sit up well we went to the inflatable duck bath in the big tub. Uses less water then the tub, has soft sides but allows for more freedom then the baby tub. I loved the duck tub!!!

  • She was well over a year. We had the Summer 3 way convertible bath where it came with a tub then a newborn seat thing. Obviously we took the newborn inset out fairly early but she used the the portion until she was, I don't know, like 16 months. She's always loved baths so one day we just put her in the big, regular tub and she was fine with it.

  • We used the same duck tub linked above from about 6 months to 12 months. Since then, I've just been taking her in the shower with me (I shower at night). This is just a temporary solution until we get the drain fixed on our tub so that the water actually stays in and doesn't drain.

  • I moved the baby bath tub from the sink to the big tub around 8 ish months.  She used it in the big tub until she was 10 months I think - when she started to try to climb out of it all the time.  (I was too cheap to get the ducky thing or a seat, so we just rolled with it.)
  • I moved him to the big tub around 7 months. His baby tub had a reclining side and a sitting side, and I moved him once his legs were too long to be fully extended on the sitting side of his tub. I haven't had any issues with him running away but he doesn't crawl yet so that could be why.

Congrats to both my TTC buddies, Amberley18 and sb2006 on their beautiful babies!
  • I guess it does make a difference that we never used a baby tub and just had a seat that went in the actual bath tub.

Also, I tried bringing Ava Nichol in the shower with me and she screams and cries and has a fit. She also looks up at me a bunch and gets the shower in her face which makes things worse.

  • 5 or 6 months when he was too long and splashing water everywhere in the kitchen. The first month I had to hold him a lot because he was a little unsteady on the slippery tub bottom so a mat would probably be a good plan :o)

    Lesson learned!!

  • Okay I'm going to run out and get a mat today. Hopefully this goes well tonight!

  • We still use his baby tub but he sits in it now, instead of laying down. He still fits and most of the time he doesn't try to stand up.

  • Well it went okay. He is obsessed with standing in the tub so that is a challenge, but not really much different than what I was dealing with in his baby tub.
