Talk to me about OPKs (PIP)
I've done some Google-ing on how to use OPKs, but wanted to ask for any tips or advice from you ladies. Things I now know:- FMU is not ideal (why is this? false positives?)
- Test more than 1x/day around O time
- It is positive if part of the line is as dark as the control
So what time is ideal? I've read late morning, early afternoon, both, evening... How many times a day do you recommend testing? I really have no history with OPKs, and when I was temping I never had an O "pattern" so I'm not sure when I might O. I am not temping this cycle, it was a bit to stressful for me when I did, and I would obsess over my temps. So I'm only tracking CM, CP, and OPKs. I'm hoping to O anytime before CD17. I'm on CD15 now.
Now the PIP - I've taken one OPK for the last four days. From top to bottom:
- Sun CD12 PM,
- Mon CD13 FMU
- Tues CD14 FMU
- (today) Wed CD15 SMU.
I have the option to test at work. When should I test today? If I get a darker OPK this afternoon, should I take one this evening, too? Now that knowing when I O really matters, I know I'm over analyzing it. Any advice would be coveted. Huge TIA!

I found I got good results testing around 10am and 4pm. Usually I had a shorter surge and one of those times would catch it. I usually start using them around CD12, once a day until they start getting darker, then start doing 2 a day. I think that the problem with testing once a day is that sometimes you can miss your surge. The problem with FMU is that sometimes the LH can build up in your system(like HCG) and lead to enough to get a positive even though you aren't really surging.
Your one from today looks close. I would test again to see if you get a positive and HIO anyway tonight. What time did you take the test today? I'd probably test again around 6 hours after that. Looks like you'll be O'ing soon, good luck!
If I were you, I'd try to test at work around 2 or 3 and then again this evening sometime if you have enough tests. GL!

T-TTC since Dec 2008. PCOS/nonexistant cycles(anovulation) and endo. HSG in '10 revealed both tubes blocked. Lap surgery in Dec '10 to correct. Failed Clomid/IUI and injectable(Bravelle)/IUI cycles so far.
FWIW I tested with SMU this AM at about 7:15. I will probably test around 1 or 2. And if it's darker but not for sure +, again this evening. And of course we'll BIO also if they get darker. Again, thanks for the tips!

I would start testing when I noticed a change in CM. I'd test with FMU only at first. If the line was getting darker (I'd get a fade in pattern) then I'd start testing 2x a day with FMU and then after work.

I always used an IC first and then a digi to confirm if it looked somewhat positive.
Also, just to give you an idea of what they look like when they turn positive I'll attach some pics.
The one pic both lines are the same. That I counted as + and it turned a digi + as well. In the second pic, the test line is actually darker than the control line. This incidentally coincided with my BFP cycle.
