Re: CPW: Nail Biting

  • The only reason I don't bite them anymore is because of germs. I pick my cuticles and the skin around my nails a LOT. :(
  • I picked flawless... but they're not. I just don't pick or bite.  If I keep my nails painted, I find that they stay in better shape overall.

  • I pick more than bite. But it is more of a nervous habit than anything else.
I had dinner the other night with another couple and the husbands bites his nails down to the middle of the nail bed!

  • I marked pick, but I only pick if I broke it. Once my nail is broken, I have to pick and try to makes it look like it isn't broken. Really I just make it worse though.

  • My nails are fine, it's the cuticles I pick and bite at.

T-TTC since Dec 2008. PCOS/nonexistant cycles(anovulation) and endo. HSG in '10 revealed both tubes blocked. Lap surgery in Dec '10 to correct. Failed Clomid/IUI and injectable(Bravelle)/IUI cycles so far.

  • I worked hard to stop myself from biting them to nothing like I use to. I pick my nails all the time, can't stop myself, but at least I stopped biting them and can grow them out really pretty.

  • I pick at hang nails.. If it's there it has to go. Not cut, completely gone!

DH used to do that, and it seriously grossed me out. He started putting this super-hot pepper nail polish on his nails, and it helped him stop!

As for my nails, I keep them really short because otherwise I just break them all the time, and I end up biting to even them out when they break funny.

  • I usually bite them and pick at the skin and cuticles. I wouldn't say they are always bit down to the nubs but occasionally I will bite them to the point where they hurt. It's a really bad habit, especially being a school teacher and being around germy kids all day!

  • I never bite my nails and never have. But I am a cuticle cutter junkie. Any little bits and the special tool comes out. (gross girl fact: it sometimes even sits next to the laptop so that I WONT pick at them and make it worse) Ive been a little better lately not that I'm doing my own manicures. Something about what they do at the nail shop seems to make them worse in the long run?

  • fun fact: I can't bite my nails. My dentist filed down my front teeth a looong time ago because I had a chip in one of my front teeth from a little run in with a jungle-gym in elementary school. So my teeth are blunted, but I pick the christ out of my cuticles.
  • I go in spurts. They look nice and grow long and I take care of them. Then something happens and one breaks or is uneven and then it all goes to shit. I even out shellac on my nubs in Aug to force myself to leave them alone and grow out. It worked but I never redid the shellac so 2 weeks after I removed it, I bit them. I usually do it in the evenings when I'm on the couch. I should take up knitting or something
