FFQ: Re Cramping

Is it usual to still be somewhat crampy? I know it's normal right away, but it's been an every day thing.  It feels similar to AF cramps, but last night I coughed and it hurt terribly. Is that normal?  If it is, will it ever go away?

This is a question I would like to ask my Dr, but my first appointment isn't until November 4th. So I still have a while.

Re: FFQ: Re Cramping

  • I'd call that normal. I think my IVF nurse said not to be concerned about cramping in the absence of bleeding. My cramping did go away sometime in first tri but I don't remember when. I definitely still have sharp pains on one side after coughing, though they usually go away fairly quickly.

If it's severe pain, definitely call your doctor. Or if you just need some reassurance.

  • i've had cramping consistantly and my RE said its completely normal. its even taken my breath away a time or two.

but i've noticed that its definetly dwindling off, so maybe from here on out it won't be so bad. I'm 7 weeks now.

  • Whew. Thank you girls. You made me feel much better. There is no bleeding, so I knew to not be that concerned.  But when there was a sharp pain while I coughed, it freaked me out a bit.

  • It's normal.  If it is accompanied by bleeding or spotting or becomes painful where you cannot do your normal activities, then I would call your doctor.

  • I had cramping. Pretty bad too. Plenty of times I would go to bathroom expecting to see blood. It does go away so hang in there!

  • As others have said...normal as long as you aren't spotting. I also wanted to add that cramping really ramped up for me around the 7 week mark.

  • Yes, I had menstrual type cramps as well.  When I asked my doc she wasn't concerned and said it was just my uterus stretching.  Completely normal.

  • I had them too. I also spotted. But...I never had cramping and spotting at the same time which was good. Normal. You're probably fine unless you started bleeding as well.

You will probably cramp somewhat until you reach your second trimester, and even then, you might cramp some. Try drinking more water. My cramps would always go away after drinking a ton of water and my doctor said that women tend to cramp more when they are dehydrated. It is completely normal, though, unless you have severe cramping (like, it more than takes your breath away or you can't handle the pain) or bleeding.

  • I have been cramping off and on since about 4 weeks. My RE says as long as they are dull and no spotting/bleeding he isn't worried. Your uterus is expanding so a lot of the cramps are totally normal. Like others said drink lots of water it does help. I also notice they are worse when I need to pee
