Could I be Pregnant?

Hi y'all!

Sorry if this is in the wrong place. Not really sure where to put it and google searching isn't giving me any answers.

On September 8th I got the birth control implant Nexplanon. I've never had it before. Before then I was using the NuvaRing but my blood pressure made continuing that a bad idea.

So for the next week we didn't have sex at all. A) Because the doctor said use a condom or no sex and

Because we were getting married the following Sunday and had a house full of people, so there was no privacy :P

We got married on the 15th last month (yay!!) but didn't have sex till the 16th. I mention this becauseA) it's passed the 1 week the doctor told me to wait before we could just rely on the Nexplanon,

it was the first day of our honeymoon so naturally we got busy, and C) it was the first day of ovulation for me.

I had some very light spotting for a few days that week but nothing concerning. When my next period was supposed to start on the 1st this month, it didn't.

The doctor said that the implant could stop me from having a period, but I didn't expect it to stop them so quickly!!

So, has anyone else had this happen to them with Nexplanon? I don't really want to go out and buy a super expensive pregnancy test if I don't have to, but if I do, which ones are the most accurate?

Take a test. You can buy the store brand. That's really the only advice that I have for ya.

No internet stranger can tell you if you are pregnant. My guess is that your period is just later than usual since you are adjusting to new BC.

If you really want to know, head to the dollar store and buy a $1 test. They are just as accurate as the expensive ones. If it's negative, test again in a week or just wait for AF. If it's positive, congrats. The bump has lots of great resources for you.

How did you know you ovulated on that day? The only way to know for sure is through temping and OPK's.

Most likely you are not pregnant. Your doctor said is could stop you from having your period. you are not having your period. Pretty cut and dry. If you are that worried about it then call your doctor and be seen.

We do not have Ute goggles, we do not know if you are pregnany.

You can buy a $1 pregnancy test from the store. If you are pregnant it is just as accurate as the rest.

No one here can tell you if you're pregnant. The only way to know is to take a test. Generally, First Response Early Result (FRER) tests are considered the most accurate around these boards. But if you don't want to spend the money, pick up a test a the dollar store.

Yes you could be pregnant. But you could also not be.

How do you know you were supposed to ovulate on the 16th? If you weren't temping or taking OPK's its impossible to know this.

ANYWAY. No one here will be able to tell you that you are or aren't pregnant. There is always a chance that's why the only form of BC that is 100% effective is abstinence.

So, take a test. If you don't want to spend lots go to the dollar store and buy one there.

Dollar store tests work just fine and should ease your mind.

Also, there is really no way to know for sure if you ovulated unless you are taking OPKs and/or temping.

I am also curious about how you know you ovulated? One of the major ways hormonal birth control works is by inhibiting ovulation in general. In theory, you really should not be ovulating while on birth control.

"The Nexplanon implant inhibits ovulation as its primary mode of action...
In addition to inhibiting ovulation, the Nexplanon implant increases the viscosity of the cervical mucus, which helps to inhibit sperm migration within the female reproductive tract... Nexplanon also decreases the thickness of the endometrium."

I was having some localized pains when running that I was talking to her about, and she seriously suggested to me that maybe they were ovulation pains (I was still using BC at the time). I had to inform her that BC works by preventing ovulation. She had no clue. It's ridiculous how little information some doctors provide before prescribing BC and that women don't bother educating themselves on it.

My good friend's 60 year old mother had no idea what ovulation was until last year when she was talking to her mom about TTC. Her mom has 3 kids. I don't even...? 8-|

Actually, some BCPs prevent implantation, not ovulation. I was on one for years to suppress my ovarian cysts and only after I had another one rupture did I figure out I was on the wrong kind. I was not on a pill that prevented ovulation, it prevented implantation only. So, not only did I not know, the prescribing doctor didn't know either.

And I was 17 so I didn't really care to educate myself, I trusted the doctor.

So this was a hormonal BC? I don't think I ever knew that some only prevented implantation. And that's pretty crazy that your doctor didn't even know!!

Soooo as everyone said...take a pg test. If it's (+) congrats call your doc, if (-) wait a week and retest. Still (-) then repeat next week. Still (-) assume you're just not going to get your period regularly on this bc and call doc.

Nothing to add here except that my WalMart has tests for 88 cents. I think it would be worth it just to take one for peace of mind.
