s/o anxiety related

I saw my midwife today. Everything is great and baby and I are healthy. However, we spent majority of the appointment talking about how bad the anxiety has become. She strongly suggested that I got on meds now so that I am calmer through the rest of the pregnant and through labor and delivery. She also is worried about how bad it'll become postpartum if I am not coping now.

Thoughts? I totally trust her judgment and I am really tired of living like this. What does GPM think?

Re: s/o anxiety related

  • I think you know how I feel but I will repeat myself.

First, I want to tell you that I am glad you had a good appointment and glad that you talked to her about the anxiety! That is a huge step and probably the hardest part.

Secondly, I think you should consider taking something for it. If it is interfering with your life then it is time to do something. I do think it will be good for you to have a calmer pregnancy and to be proactive about post partum care.

Of course you should talk to your husband about this and do what you feel is right but that is just my 2 cents. I hope that you can figure out a way through this anxiety soon!

  • I agree with you MW & With Wiggy!

Hope you what you need and get the anxiety under control so you can enjoy the rest of your pregnancy and arrival of LP.

  • Follow your gut, only you know what's best for you and your baby.  Don't let outside perceptions color your decision.

  • The most important thing here is a healthy baby and a healthy mommy. You should never beat yourself up over needing to ask for help, whatever that translates to.

It's important to remember that your midwife would never suggest something to you that she thinks would jeopardize your baby and you need to take care of yourself physically and mentally so you can be strong when taking care of miss K.

  • Do it.  You've had anxiety issues for a long time, and pregnancy and birth are just perpetuating them.  To be the best mom you can be, you need to feel OK.  I have major anxiety, was on meds through my whole pregnancy and am still on meds and STILL deal with anxiety.  I highly recommend getting on them now before things get worse - I'm not saying they will get worse, but you don't want to hit that point.  There is nothing wrong with being medicated for anxiety.
