Emmy - Aldi Question - Did you try the organic/grass fed beef?

Hey there,
I remember you posting about Aldi having specials on organic and/or grass fed beef (and other meat) and that you had seen it in their flyer. I haven't seen anything in the flyers I've received. I think I remember you saying the meat sales were only going to be on one specific day. Am I making this up?!

Did you pick some up? Was it good?

  • Wasn't me who posted that originally (might have been Amy?) but I would be curious to hear opinions as well.  I've been hesitant to try any meat products there, but might feel differently about organic.

  • It was me.  They have a special meat buy every Wednesday.  So I rushed over last Wednesday (Robinson) and they didn't have the beef!  They didn't really give me a clear answer of why they didn't have it (I didn't really push for an answer though).  They did say that they had it over the summer (on another special meat buy) and it sold very well so they will most likely bring it back.

  • I bought it- at the Robinson store last wed or thurs, but they only had a few packs. We made tacos everyone was happy with it! It was $4.49/lb.

They must have got it after I left.  That stinks!

  • Thanks, ladies!

I just tried Aldi for the first time last week and I bought chicken breasts. I won't do that again. They were really dry and stringy - the consistency was very odd.

I've had good luck with Purdue chicken at Bottom Dollar though (not Bottom Dollar's brand - that was similarly dry and stringy).

  • I agree Ryan.  I've never thought much of the meat at Aldi.  And I'm not a super picky shopper but I cook a lot and it just doesn't stack up.  I'm a big fan of the meat at Kuhn's.  It's fresh and not outrageously priced.

  • Kuhn's has some surprising stuff! I love their cheese case by the deli. I do most of my grocery shopping at Bottom Dollar and now Aldi - but I do find myself running to Kuhn's for meat and lunch meet.

  • I love Kuhn's. I miss it since the closest one to me now is Moon.

  • Their prepackaged ground turkey is good and SO much cheaper than I've found elsewhere.
