Let's talk shaving

1) How often do you replace your razor and/or blade?

I never know how long to keep them or if there is a set time to change the blade. I usually wait until I get a crappy shave, then replace the blade.

2) What do you use to shave?  Dry? Conditioner? Soap? Shaving cream?

I love the EOS one but it sucks to get the last bit out of the bottle :(

Re: Let's talk shaving

  • 1) Not nearly often enough. I probably just do the same thing you do. Half the time, I keep using the same old razor because I keep forgetting to switch it out until I'm actually in the shower, and at that point I just use what's there.

    2) I've been using the EOS cream since you recommended it. I'm enjoying it quite a bit! I found using regular old conditioner was nicer than the usual shaving gels (Skintimate or Satin Care), but it needs to be a relatively thick conditioner. The random Suave conditioner I got to use just for shaving ended up being kind of runny, and it sucked.

I love it too! But, now that I am almost at the end, it doesn't pump out anymore. I had to unscrew the cap this morning and "scoop" it out.

  • 1) I change my blade when I run of of shave gel and/or when I get a lot of nicks and a crappy shave.  I switched to cheap blades last year (bought a costco sized amount) so they dull way quicker I find.  I prefer to use man blades because my hair is so coarse.

    2) Obviously I use gel, I could never do dry and conditionner has not been good to me.

PS - I want to do laser on my underarms and eventually elsewhere, has anyone done it??

I've also tried Kootchie Cream before (yes, you buy it at a sex store/magazine).  It helps eliminate the bumps and rashes, especially in the bikini area.

Exactly this!  I try to remember to switch it out as soon as I'm done in the shower (when it's starting to get old I put the razor on the side of the tub as soon as I'm done using it so when I get out I'll see it and switch it out), but I can't even remember to do that half the time.

Luckily I have blonde, relatively fine hair, so I can go almost a week without shaving and even a crappy shave is good enough.

I usually use one of those creams you get at passion parties because it really does work, but it's kind of expensive so sometimes I'll just use my body wash and that works well enough.

  • PS - I want to do laser on my underarms and eventually elsewhere, has anyone done it??

I've done it on my underarms!!

First off, I have olive-y Italian skin and thick-ish dark hair. This needs to be taken into account when they set up the intensity of the laser.

I'm a pain wuss, and there were times I was veeeeery uncomfortable. The techs were always great about talking to me during the treatments, being quick, and/or giving me a minute between zaps when I needed to regroup. It wasn't completely awful, but I'm really glad it was such a small area and done in no time.

I do still have hair growth though. It is vastly less than it used to be, and the hair is both thinner and much more sparse, but there's still hair there. I can also go quite a bit longer between shaves of my underarms than I used to.

Knowing how I responded to the treatment, and considering the cost of it, I'm not sure I'd do it on further areas of my body. I'd certainly love to thin out the hair on my legs (because I need to shave those bad boys like every day during the summer), but that costs a lot of money I'm not willing to part with.

  • I change my blade when I realize it needs to be changed, which is probably waaay past when I should actually do it.  and I shave every day! arms, legs, girly bits.

and I don't use anything to shave, just water.

  • 1) Jeez I guess every month or maybe 6 weeks? I don't know for sure.  I am so lazy that even when I notice the blade is dull I won't open the curtain to reach for the new blades in the drawer... I'll just keep using the same razor until I finally remember to switch it before getting in the shower.

    2) I used to use shaving cream but it does nothing for me that soap can't accomplish. Also I'm so prone to yeast infections that I can only use soap when doing my area down there so pretty much just soap up everything.

Mine get replaced ever three months, if that, but I'm a dirty hippie who doesn't shave that often (and if I do, it's usually only my underarms).  I always end up nicking myself or getting razor burn which inevitably leads to ingrown hairs, so it's not something I'm a big fan of doing.  If I don't go at least a week in between shaving my pits, it's razor burn city.

ETA: When I do shave, I use my body wash.  All you ladies who only use water are giving me the heebie jeebies right now!

  • 1) Every three to four weeks. That's when I notice that it gets dull. However, this is really only for my downstairs and upper legs, because I wax the lower half.

    2) I just do it in the shower with soap and water. It doesn't bother me at all.

I use it until it starts to become uncomfortable for my skin. I'm sure I go way too long also.
    2) What do you use to shave?  Dry? Conditioner? Soap? Shaving cream?
It's like the Koochie Cream that was mentioned above, but it's from the Fantasia book. It makes my skin feel amazing. Plus it has pheromones in it ;)

  • Well, ever since I started taking my hair vitamin it has made hair on my legs grow like crazy... so I am having to change my razors way more often. I shave with soap and water.

  • 1. I replace it when I feel like I need a new one. Maybe 2-3 months? Or if I want an extra smooth shave for a "special occasion" ;)

    2. I used to use a bar of soap until @lb1117 recommended the EOS stuff. In love with it! I always hated shaving cream, but that stuff is the bees-knees!

I change my razor when I'm getting really shitty shaves, and then it takes me a few weeks to quit being lazy and switch it. I normally use my shower cream from bbw, but if I'm just doing my underarms as an afterthought I don't need anything. Keeping in mind that I'm blond as well and the hair is pretty fine and doesn't grow fast. @jamieandlindsay I too have had laser, it was on the bikini area. I would say most places it hurt the same as a wax, but when they went over a tendon it definitely jolts you! I wouldn't say those places are hair free, but they are thinner and sparser. Anytime I get a wax the girls can tell I've had some done. I don't think I went for the recommended amount of treatments either. I think I did maybe 3 as opposed to six. For what they're charging these days and the fact that I get ingrowns on my bikinis area with shaving I'd say it's prob worth it for a small area. Not a large one though.

  • 1. Every 6 weeks or so 2. I use baby oil. It leaves my legs super smooth
  • I generally replace mine once the blade seems to be getting dull....like every few weeks (or once a month). I also use shower gel. Oh, and also one thing I should mention here - not sure what you ladies do, like whether or not you leave your razor in the shower when you are finished, but I know plenty of people who do leave their razor in there and it is not a good idea. Just trust me on this. I usually dry mine off when I'm finished and put it away.
  • 1. Not often enough, usually when I start getting rough shaves.

    2. Baby oil, my razors last SO much longer, and I no longer get dry itchy spots on my legs in the winter because whether shaving or not, I lather up my legs with baby oil before getting out of the shower.
  • I was disposable razors and use a new one every couple of months.

I use conditioner.  I feel like I get a smoother shave and softer skin using that rather than shaving gel.
