MM TV shows?

I like watching the Suze Orman Show, are there other MM you watch or would suggest checking out?

Re: MM TV shows?

  • I tried watching her show.  But she just annoys the crap out of me.

Sorry doesn't answer your question.   I don't know if there are any other shows like hers, but I am curious to find out.

People seem to love or hate Suze Orman.  I personally love her.  Her mannerisms can be irritating but I love her "Can I Afford It?" section and I like that she doesn't seem to have a problem telling people no or basically pointing out that their life is not rosy and it's not going to become rosy until they start working very hard to get there.  In other words, good finances don't just happen - it takes a lot of work, sacrifice, and self-control, and nobody is entitled to "stuff" (ahem: cell phones with data plans and sexy cars less than 5 years old).... that approach seems to be increasingly rare these days.

I tried watching Bulls and Bears for awhile until I realized that the premise of every episode seems to be, "We don't know what's going to happen in the market."  Well of course they don't.  It seemed to silly to sit there for an hour and listen to them argue until they all decide to agree that they can't predict the future.

This isn't TV, but I love listening to Clark Howard on the radio.  I live in the Atlanta area (where he broadcasts from), but I think his show is syndicated in other parts of the country as well.  He does sometimes appear on national news networks as a correspondent.  If you aren't familiar with him, this is a man who is very very wealthy but also ridiculously cheap.  So his whole show is about things you can do in your life to save pennies, and he also talks about new "deals" and also those that are scams.  He spends a lot of time talking about budget travel, and his vacation tips are great - he runs travel tips on his website showing all the below-market airline prices out of the Atlanta airport, which is updated daily.  His biggest tip for travel in general is, "find a great deal on a plane ticket, buy it, and then decide why you want to go."  I once saw him at a book signing in an Atlanta Costco randomly... I was like, "Yes.  This is where I want to meet a MM celebrity."

  • I listen to Dave Ramsey and watch Suzi Orzmun.  I try to find the middle ground between the two philosophies.

I just came to the realization that medical deductibles along with other deductibles don't belong with the emergency fund since they are two different animals.

Why don't they belong in the e fund?

  • Because they are annual expenses not emergencies especially if you have children.

We are tracking our health care costs this year to better plan for next year.  Our LO has had a lot of ear infections and other reasons to go to the doctor and both MW and I have had unexpected medical issues that should be just this year only.

Talking to others at work, as children get older and get more involved in sports the medical deductibles become more of an annual expense then an emergency that need to be brought fully into the budget.

The emergency fund should be more used for unexpected things like emergency car repairs, being laid off, or the roof leaks suddenly.  Even Dave Ramsey says that if you know that you need auto repairs in the near future you are suppose to save up for it an pay cash.  Same goes with regular housing repairs.
  • I don't know of any other tv shows, but that would be nice. I follow Dave Ramsey's Facebook page where he has a tip every day and articles.

oh ok, we rarely see the doctor so there isn't much to save for.  If we do have medical expenses like that they are most likely an emergency situation.  That's kinda overwhelming trying to figure all the little details out.  We just keep it all in our savings account.
