Apartment Hunting - A day in the life...
You would think it would be easier to at least view apartments. We've been running into all kinds of road blocks. The first is that many of the places we'd like to visit aren't calling us back. The second is the pet policy. We are only looking for places that allow pets. Don't put pets allowed in the ad if they aren't! What a waste of our time. And theirs.
Day 1 (Thursday) - we spent our morning driving around to our possible locations waiting on them to call us back. We wanted to know how to get to them. Finally got two appointments scheduled at 2:30 and at 4:00. Arrive at 2:30 showing - place reeks of dogs - there may have been a wet dog left behind and hidden somewhere for how strong the smell was. While this made me automatically say no to the place, the rickety stairs, stove with numbers we couldn't read and a light held up by a binder clip clearly indicated this wasn't the place we wanted. Oh and pets allowed - nope but I think we can understand why. Arrive at 4:00 showing - beautiful and clean. Love the set up and the neighborhood. Bummed there isn't a garage but hey I can live without it until we get a house. Pet policy - ooops, did they say it was negotiable? Well fill out the app and pay them $100 and they'll get back to you on that. No way! We left feeling very disappointed. But we put in a call to their main office to see if we could find out about the pet thing without paying the app fees.
Day 2 (Friday) - Must call at 9:00 am to confirm showing at 4:00 or they will cancel it. Made call - good to go but it's at 4:30. Pet policy, oh the owner just changed it yesterday to no pets. (FML!!!) But we should still come see it and maybe the management company can get the owner to change their mind. Okay. Make more phone calls to try to get more appointments. Scored one for 10:30 am. Show up and it's your standard apartment complex. Not the greatest but big bedrooms. The guy who owns the condo says he also has a townhouse not far from there he is in the middle of fixing up to rent. So we go check it out. Best place we've seen so far! Picked up an application to fill out and going back on Monday to check out the repairs that should be done. In the middle of looking at these places the management company from Thursday called back. Cats are okay! So now we have two great locations and one meh location to keep as a back up. Applications completed this afternoon. Our search is looking up. Getting ready to go to the last showing today at 4:30.
Most of our other calls have gone unanswered or we found out they don't allow cats. We have nothing scheduled to view this weekend. We were hoping for more options to pick from but we'll take what we've got. I think we might have one next Monday. Maybe.
