Do you guys feel weird trying out new styles?  I'm so not a fashionista but pinterest is making me want to try new things.

Today I'm wearing a scarf (maroon and black swirls infinity scarf with a black long sleeve shirt and jeans)... and I feel like a ninny.  I really want to get some boots, but I feel like I'll just feel stupid in those too.

Re: New Fashion Styles

  • I know the feeling, but I always remind myself that people care wayyyy less about what I'm wearing/how I look than I do.  ;)  And that sounds cute, anyhow!

I bought my first pair of skinny jeans last month.  I refused to buy them until I fit into X size.  I finally do now!!  Anyway, I was walking around the store stalking some 20-22 year old because I had no idea what to wear with them.  I felt so creepy, and was being really obvious about it.  I have no idea how to be stylish anymore!

I'm actually wearing them today with a loose/big top and boots.  Pretty cute!

  • @mana8503 your outfit sounds adorable! I'm very much a baggy jeans and hoodie gal, but I do love scarves. I don't feel like I could pull off a lot of the new trends. I do love a pair of knee high boots with tights and a skirt or dress though. Maybe that is how you could transition into boots?

  • @willyh19 - YES I love me some jeans and a hoodie!

Yes, I think skinny jeans and boots are my next goal, but I had to see when I would get paid next with this gov't shutdown. There's a few boots at DSW I've been eyeing and there's an Old Navy next door.  I've heard a lot of good things about their sweetheart skinnies.  I like a lot of the brown boot outfits I've been pinning lately... but I feel black would match more of my outfits I already have.  While I like the brown/black pairing on pinterest... it still makes me cringe haha

I also feel like I need a little bit of a heel in the boots.  I think with higher boots and my SHORT legs (I'm 5'1) I need something to lengthen.

    I need a stylist haha.

  • @seipel12 - It says it didn't exist :(

Um my dress for the anniversary is about as stylist as I get haha.  I always said if I were skinny I would try... and it's funny I'm at my heaviest and I'm like f-it I want to look good NOW.

@mana8503 I don't understand why I can't get pictures to work on here anymore.  Photobucket must just suck!  And wear whatever makes you feel good.  Weight is a difficult thing for women, if dressing cute makes you feel good, DO IT!

  • I love What Not to Wear, and they always tell ladies to dress for the body you have NOW.  That will make you feel good in ways that will spill over into other areas of your life, and possibly even be a bigger motivator health-wise.

  • @seipel12 - I never got photobucket to work for me. I just copy an image and paste it in from fb or use tinypic.  The attach file below the posts work too, load it and then when you hover over the picture you can insert it.

  • I love to shop and I love to stay on trend, although some styles I just can't get with.  Like the high waisted shorts are just horrendous!  I think my "My Style" board is the largest one I have :)  I like trying on new styles because I love the way a good outfit makes me feel.  If I wake up feeling crappy and put on a nice outfit, I automatically feel better.  I think it's important to make yourself feel good, and a lot of that has to do with your personal appearance.

@mana8503 - I know what you mean about the black and brown combo.  At first I didn't get it and almost refused to combine the two, but now it's one of my favorite looks.  I actually have a pair of wedges that are black and brown and I'll wear them with a black dress and brown skinny belt.  Maybe try finding a shirt or scarf that has the black and brown in it and pair it with the brown boots....?  Oh and your outfit sounds super cute!

  • I love boots now! I finally bought a pair of skinny jeans last November to wear with boots, and I love it! I'm not 100% comfortable all the time, but I've been trying! I really want some black boots, but I haven't found any I really like that fit my calves :(  I may be fat, but my legs are usually considered pretty fit, but none of the d**n things fit!!

  • I'm not fashion forward.  I like expensive clothes and I can't see spending a lot of money on something that will be out of fashion at the end of the season.  I don't think trendy clothes look good on me anyway.  I always feel awkward in them.

I have a classic look.  I feel like most of my clothes are timeless.
  • @xxjen015 - dsw has wide calf styles. And some have an extra zipper to let out more. My friend said it's awesome so you can adjust between wearing them bare legged or with tights, vs jeans.

  • I have always struggled with finding boots too!  I'm a bit curvy but never thought my legs were particularly "fat" but boots would always just not quite zip with jeans tucked into them.  I finally got a pair this year at Payless.  They are "wide" sized and fit nice with jeans, but are actually almost too loose going bare-legged with a dress.

My clothes are timeless too.  Meaning I wear mostly jeans and solid colored shirts, lol.  My sister always says I dress too plain.  but at least I'm never out of style, lol :P
