broke my parents' hearts

I told my mom and dad we were going to try and visit them for Christmas. Then I found out my best friend is getting married in June and we can't afford both trips, so I told them we'll see them in June. My parents then offered to pay for the trip to see them in December. We said yes, but after thinking about the big picture we decided to turn them down. We are worried about Abby being exposed to the cold PA winter when she is used to the warm FL weather. DH got really sick when we came back from our last trip to PA and he was 31. Abby will be more prone to getting sick. We asked if they could come see us, but it was a no. My mom got off the phone really quickly. We broke their hearts.

I am sorry that you have to deal with that. Unfortunately, when you live away from family you just have to realize that you can't make everyone happy.We made a decision to not go home for Christmas this year for various reasons. Its important to stick to your decision, but its a lot easier said than done. Trust me. I am still looking flights even though we aren't going.

Aww it is difficult pleasing everyone around the holidays. But you have your little family you have to take care of and are doing what is best for it. If they were willing to spend the money to fly you down, why don't they take a trip to come see you this December instead?

They said the timing of their days off will nt give them the time they need to travel. They would most likely have to drive because my mom will be recovering from eye surgery (she'll be about 2 months post op by then). My dad may have something wrong with his knee. They said they may have doctor appointments during their time off too. Basically they are concerned about their health. We have to think about Abby's health. I'm not sure they understand that.

I know it's a hard decision to make. Due to our moving and Paul's days off we will be in Denver for Christmas. My mom might come visit but she isn't sure. We will just do our own little family thing.
