WIJFR: Just One Year (NS)

I just finished reading Just One Year by Gayle Forman.  I was a bit disappointed in it as I absolutely love Gayle Forman's books and was expecting to be blown away.  While it was a good read, I didn't love it.  Part of the problem may have been that I read Just One Day so long ago that I didn't remember the story very well so it took awhile to get into.  Although, it was really nice to get Willem's view of the day they spent in Paris and his journey over the next year.  Overall, I would give it 3.5 stars but had my expectations not been so high, it probably would have been 4 stars.

Also, I loved the Where She Went Easter Egg.  If I hadn't just finished a reread of Where She Went yesterday, I would have missed it.

Re: WIJFR: Just One Year (NS)

  • I just got this one from the library.  It's taunting me from my nightstand but I have 3 other library books to finish first.

Bummer you didn't like it more.

  • Thanks for the review.  I am glad I didn't spend money on it.  Although I have requested it from the library.

  • I'm still processing this one. I loved the writing, as usual, and I loved the story. But it wasn't what I was expecting, and that really threw me off.

  • Good to know.  I just picked it up from the library yesterday.  Maybe I'll find my copy of Just One Day to refresh my memory.
  • I just started this and I have so many feelings so far. I love Gayle Forman and her writing but I'm scared I'll be let down by JOY because I loved Just One Day SO MUCH and it's giving me anxiety.

  • I'm reading it now (about halfway) and I'm lukewarm towards it.

  • I read this on Sunday. I really liked it, but I did something I never do -- I flipped ahead to the ending when I was still in the first few chapters. I also had to reread some of Just One Day. 4 stars.
  • So I just finished this.  I don't know... I flew threw it and enjoyed it but I wanted...MORE?????  Like he just hopped from place to place and then...  I also think a reread of JOD would have been helpful.  Eh.

  • I just finished this as well. I really enjoyed it too. However it was missing something.
  • I finished JOY on Saturday.  I'm pretty disappointed. :(
  • I just finished on Sunday night. I loved it. I have no idea where the disappointment would come in, I felt like you totally understood Willem's POV and why he was the way he was in Just One Day. I felt super emotional after I finished reading it too. Gayle Forman knows how to get me right in the flipping feels.
