CBH FFC

My work (early childhood) has a yearly clothing/toy/baby stuff exchange. Parents bring in stuff they no longer need and people are allowed to take whatever and however much of it they want, regardless of whether or not they contributed. Staff are also allowed to take things.

They were setting stuff out and I spotted some things that I want. I might take a decent haul. There was a super cute diaper bag and some gender neutral things that are pretty nice. I want I want! I'm justifying it by saying that we are paying a buttload for this adoption and I will take all the free stuff I can get my hands on. I can just put it in a box in the closet until I need it.

The only catch is that I have to find a way to take it w/o co-workers and parents noticing. Only a couple of my co-workers know about our plans to adopt and I don't want to raise suspicions that I am pregnant. I will have to find some non-lame excuse.

  • @looneylife I do have some friends that are expecting so maybe I will use them as an excuse...

I hear ya. When I was graduating college I picked up a bunch of free household stuff that was leftover by other students. I didn't end up needing most of it for almost a year when I got my own apartment, but it was so nice to have that stuff after dropping money on deposits/rent, etc. Anything I didn't end up using I just gave to Goodwill.

ETA I probably wouldn't pay for CBH stuff unless it was something one-of-a-kind that I didn't think I could get later. I'm not passing up on free though!

  • Yeah, just say it's for a friend. If they ask, say it's none of their business, because it's not.

  • Ooh, that's awesome! Just take it and if someone questions, say your best friend is expecting. Hope you get a great stash!

That's really cool that they do that.  I agree with others, I'd either go a little bit early/stay a little late or else just say you're picking up stuff for a friend/relative.

My own CBH FFC...I came 'this' close to buying a really cute Halloween bib the other day.  I never thought I'd even consider buying baby stuff until I was actually pregnant but the urge has started.  I've refrained thus far though.
