WWYD?

So H and I exchanged anniversary gifts early and gave them to each other yesterday.  I was shocked when I opened mine because H got me a beautiful diamond tennis bracelet.  To stick with the paper theme for our first anniversary, he gave me the receipt first and I freaked out a bit when I saw the price.  He said he really wanted to give me something that I would remember forever as our first anniversary gift and that was extra special.  It's beautiful, but I'm worried I'll never wear it for fear of loosing it.  He got me earrings for my wedding gift and they stay in a drawer all the time because of the same reason.

Should I keep it if I know I'll never really wear it?  He said I can go exchange it or return it if I want to and I know he won't mind, but I'm torn because he tried really hard to get me something that I would love.  What would y'all do?

Re: WWYD?

  • I think that I would keep it and wear it on special occasions.  I don't think that I would have the heart to return it knowing that he wanted it to be extra special and it was for our first anniversary.  The only reason I would return it would be if we couldn't afford it financially.

  • I agree with Cathy!  DH got me a gorgeous necklace for our wedding.  I ended up wearing it for my something new.  I've only worn it once since the wedding since it's so fancy, but still love it.

  • I agree with PPs.  I would keep it for special occasions or maybe get some insurance on it.
  • Agree with all of the above.  I'm sentimental, and if H got me something special like that, I'd keep it!

  • Keep it!  That is so sweet, not because of the price, but because of his sentiment.  Think of it this way, it will be an heirloom someday!  That's how I justify expensive jewelry, lol ;)

  • I guess I'm just not used to having such expensive fine jewelry and I feel like it's too much for me to have.  I just feel kinda guilty accepting such an elaborate gift.

  • I agree to keep it.  It would be a nice memory and something beautiful to wear on special occasions (like your upcoming birthday).  Definitely get it insured if it cost enough.
