Pre-NaNoWriMo Check-in

Fifteen more days until the madness begins!

How is everyone doing with preparations?

Do you know what you're writing? Anybody in the midst of research or outlining before jumping in?

Any place you're stuck and need brainstorming help?

Re: Pre-NaNoWriMo Check-in

  • Oh! Prep stuff, yeah I should get on that.
I know what I'm writing, but I haven't done any research at all.  Yeah I want to get that done before the 1st so I don't have to do it while writing.
I'm trying to come up with names.
I haaaaaate coming up with names.

  • @menrandes Who are you having trouble naming? Maybe if you tell us a little about them we can throw out some possibilities.

  • The basic premise came to me the other day.  I know some of the history of what I'm going to write about but I do need to do some research.  @julie37619 helped me work some of it out last night.

I'm still formulating how they look and fleshing out personalities.  But there is one male, late 30's, early 40's.  A well-to-do sort of gentleman.  And one female, mid 20's to very early 30's.  She owns a diner but mostly takes the roll of a waitress.
Those are the two I'm stuck on names for.

  • I am going to be working on the follow up to my NaNo from 2012. I am so excited about it. I haven't done any work on it because I am editing last years.

I'm not too concerned because I know my characters so well and I have had ideas for the story since starting book 1. I have had things written down and a general plot but I really need to work on the timeline ect.

I will probably work on some of the scenes for book 1 as well because I thought of some scenes I want to add. I figure that as long as I am coming up with brand new scenes it can count towards my 50k.
  • So I was sitting here tonight trying to really flesh out the personality of my two main characters.  This is a bit more difficult than usual, as what I'm writing this time is pretty far outside my comfort zone of writing.  And I tend to base main characters off my own personality or the personalities of the people I am closest too.  That wont work here as I already knew that neither character was really anything like myself and not terribly similar to those I am closest too.
I was wandering about the NaNoWriMo forums and came across the suggestion to do a personality test for the characters.
    Bingo!
I did that and answered how I felt the characters would answer and when I got my results it fit perfectly.
So, yeah, I highly recommend that if anyone else is having trouble with character personalities.

  • 15 days, yikes! ::puts head back in sand::

Actually I'm not doing too bad. Outline is started and mostly figured out in my brain, just need to jot it down.

  • I never thought about a personality test. That's a great idea!

  • Oh man, it's coming quick.  I wish inspiration would hit me soon.  Nothing has panned out just yet and I'd like to participate.

I really like the personality test idea.
