Experienced Disney Travelers

Anyone have any advice on what rides we should AVOID at Disney for the little ones?  My kids are both fairly brave--but I don't want to waste our time on rides that the majority of the kids hate or that will scare the bejeezus out of them.

2 days to go!  Any other minute advice?

  • the scary indoor dinosaur roller coaster. It is all "beware, this is scary" and we ignored it. Though your little peanut brinley may not even be tall enough for it.  EJ was for real scared.  I laughed through the whole thing while she buried her face in my arm.  Mother of the year!

I have heard this as well. There is a Disney guide book that lists all the rides and the scare factor for kids. But sounds like not enough time for that although maybe you can pick one up before you go.

I know it said snow white's ride was scary but dd was fine with it. Pretty much everything she could ride was fine for her. We went before the new area opened though so I'm not sure about the new rides

  • You might want to check her height before you go; Jake is 43.5 inches tall...space mountain has a 44 inch height requirement, so he may not be able to go on that one (which is probably better...he keeps saying he wants to go on it, but I have a feeling he'd get up there & freak) If she's on the smaller side, she might not have the option to go on some of the scarier ones (expedition everest is 44 inches, I believe Rock n Roller coaster is even a bit taller, though I can't remember what exactly)

this too, most of the faster roller coasters EJ was to small for.  I want to say she was like 42 inches or so when we went. We didn't do a snow white ride either, did that just open? Or did we miss it?
  • DD is around 40 inches, so I wasn't even planning on the bigger rides/coasters  for the kids (we will do rider swap though!)

    Thanks for the tips!

  • FYI--Snow white ride is gone......It wasn't there last Sept when we went. :)
  • We did Pirates of the Caribean because DH wanted to, but DD was a little scared of that one. Trying to think what else. Bug's Life in AK is 3D and I've heard many do not like. DD was fine with that one too. I think one 3D "ride" and you will be able to gauge if they will be ok with others for the rest of your trip.

I was wondering if they were getting rid of that! That was the only one of the rides for dd's height that I really felt the book warned of being scary...and it really wasn't anyways.

  • I'm on 5th trip in 5 years. we started taking jackson when he was 1. I did one trip when I was pregnant, and I could go on almost everything.

Jackson loved almost everything, even as a baby. He absolutely Loves Soarin'. Last year was the first time he was tall enough for it.

We didn't do Thunder Mountain RR, though eh was tall enough for it. we tried Goofy's coaster, but it broke down as we were about to get on it.

B woudl be tall enough for Dinosaur, but that one can be a little scary for the kids.

She's probably tall enough for tower of terror as well. That's not particulaly scary, but I woldn't take J on it. the one ride he went on that he didn't particularly like was Haunted Mansion. He loves Pirates of the Caribbean.

  • Not a clue since we've not yet gone, but just wanted to say HAVE FUN! Can't wait to hear about it when you get back!
  • I'm so bummed about the snow white ride!  I love the old classic rides.  Tower of Terror scares me as an adult so, maybe too scary for a small child  :P .

Yea, we skipped the bugs life one because EJ has a little pre-existing fear of spiders and sometimes bugs. So we scared her with the dino one. hahaha.  She liked the goofy coaster, but she had been on a roller coaster before at Idlewild.

You know the Goofy coaster broke down when we were there too. We did ride it once but when we went to go back on later in the day..... people were stuck in it on the track. So just an FYI. Ha.
  • Dinosaur scares the crap out of me as an adult, so.... Yeah. I can't deal with things jumping out at me in the dark. :)
