Help!!

Does anyone know a good place to order meals to be delivered to someone else?

A friend's mother just passed away, and a group of us collected over $400 to buy them a gift certificate to get some meals delivered (at their convenience, since I'm sure they're getting plenty of food now).
Problem is, I'm totally overwhelmed with all these delivery sites that pop up online when you google it. Does anyone have experience with any of them?

Thanks!

Re: Help!!

  • I'm sorry I don't. That's very nice that everyone gathered $400 for food.
  • Just look online for places in their town. That's very nice of you to send them meals!

  • Coming out of hiding here!  You may have already given the gift, but did the group consider giving the friend the cash?

When my FIL passed away unexpectedly last year, bills and costs came at us from every angle (funeral, cleaning out his apartment, etc).  So did a lot of food.  They might appreciate a card with a check.  Just an idea if food seems difficult!
  • I second Megs - when my father died there were tons of expenses and life insurance takes awhile to pay up. Food is the go to for many people, but cash is always needed and appreciated.
  • Aw crap! Thanks so much for the input everyone - we already purchased a gift card for one of the online food delivery places, but now I'm wishing we'd just given cash. Oh well. Now I know for next time.

Thanks so much for the input though!

And for anyone wondering about food delivery, we went with dinewise.com based on the good reviews and the fact that you can use a giftcard there at three different online food shopping companies, so it's a little more flexible.

  • Don't feel bad for giving a gift card! Honestly, anything received after a loss is appreciated. You and your friends are kind to do that and you gave so much! I'm sure it'll be a big hit!
