evita! (ebooks post)

Soooo I searched for the books you recommended through my library and seriously 2. TWO of those books are offered as audiobooks (and only 3 offered digitally) gah.   Chelsea Handler and Ellen Degeneres' books are the 2 available.

Since I didn't really feel like a memoir I ended up just picking a book on my tbr list that was available.  (The Peach Keeper) And I am so glad I have decided to do this!  I really enjoyed listening to the story while running.  I know you listen to audiobooks a bit so it might not hold the same enjoyment for you, but just a thought. :)

Just thought I would give you an update :)  Looks Like I have several books to request!

Re: evita! (ebooks post)

  • Yay I'm glad you liked it :)  I'm impressed you can listen to one while running.  I need music to keep me pumped up and I would probably hate listening to one while running.  I do really enjoy them on my commute though.  I just can't listen to the radio anymore because they play the same 5 songs constantly the DJs are just awful.

Once you listen to a few, you can get a feel for what types of books you like listening to.  I actually prefer biographies (especially when its the author who is reading it) because it seems a little more natural for them to be talking.  Kinda like they are just having a conversation with you and sharing stories about their life.  Other books can be hit or miss and a lot depends on how good the narrator is.

    Thanks for the update!

  • Yeah the whole narrator thing is what intimidates me. I can read a blurb and decide if it's my kind of book, but the narrator could make such a difference. I was just able to kind of some out from running and go. Instead of counting mileage and my pace.

  • oh, I love the idea of an audiobook for running!  I listen to podcasts.

    Thanks for the idea!

  • I actually thought of you when I posed this joy. I wasn't sure how you would feel about it. With you lack of desire to try an ebook

  • I've never tried Audiobooks before. Do you mainly listen to them in a car? I commute to school each day, but it's only 20 minutes each way, so I feel like it would take me forever to get through a book and I would forget it along the way.

  • jlq - I mainly listen to them on my commute which is generally about 30-45 minutes depending on traffic.  I sometimes listen to them when I'm cleaning/gardening as well.  If I really like the book, I'll listen to it while getting ready in the morning or while making dinner or just sitting around the house.  I guess it all depends on my mood and how good the book is.

  • Ok so I get how you would listen to them in the car, but how do you listen to them while doing other things? Do you use your phone for this? I don't have a fancy phone. I have a stereo with a cd player, so listening to them in my house would be ok I guess.
I've been thinking about trying audiobooks, especially for the drive back home. It's about 2.5 hours and boring since it's mostly interstate.

  • I used to use my phone but it was a major pain in the ass depending on what format the audiobook was in.  If it was .wma, not all of the files would transfer and I would seriously sit there for an hour trying to get everything to transfer correctly with no success.  If it was .mp3, everything would transfer fine but I couldn't listen to anything else in the meantime because it wouldn't remember where you were.

So all that to say, I use a cheapo .mp3 player that DH had bought years ago but doesn't use anymore.  It's nice because all I use it for are my audiobooks so I don't have to worry about accidently listening to something else and losing my spot.  I use the .mp3 player both in the car using an auxiliary cable and headphones while around the house.

This is the one that I use.
