Dopplers

For those of you that had a Doppler, which kind did you have?  Did you like it?  I am looking to get one and don't really understand the differences between some of them!  Thanks! :-)

Re: Dopplers

  • I don't have one but LB does and this is the link she gave me http://www.fetaldoppler.net/sonoline.html

  • I am interested in the responses here too. The way I have been anxious so far I think I may want to invest in a Doppler!

  • @iwalktheline see I was wondering if having a doppler would make me more nervous. like if the baby was in a weird position and I couldn't find the hb or something.
  • @amccul20 I told DH I wanted one and he said I could only have one if I promise not to freak out if I can't find the heartbeat right away.  Easier said than done! :-p

    @iwalktheline  Were you able to easily find the heartbeat every time?  Or only after a certain number of weeks?

  • I don't have a Sonoline B.  I have the Angelsounds Fetal Doppler.  (Found it on eBay for $47)  I am loving it!  I didn't get it until I hit 14w.  Since then I've listened to LO's hb pretty often as it never gets old!  I mentioned to my OB that I got the doppler and she made sure to tell me to not use it as a diagnosing tool.  Yes, I might hear the hb, but if I feel like something is wrong, to always contact them.

    @amccul20 and @sparklingdiamond... the thing i tried to keep in mind is that it's not unusual to have a difficult time finding it in the beginning.  My dr.'s office wouldn't even try until I was 10 weeks (though I had found it at home already a few days before).  It was much more difficult in the beginning to find it (it wouldn't be unusual to try for 20 minutes before I found it... if I was even able to), but it gets easier as you get further along.  I think you can start depending on it being consistent around 14 weeks? (don't quote me on that, but I think that's what I remember reading).

    I still find it useful now.  If I haven't felt movement in a bit, or if I have a weird pain, it's nice to be able to break it out and hear that everything's alright.

  • :: butting in ::

    I agree with everything IWTL just said. I borrowed it from a friend. Found the HB at 10 weeks for the first time, then had the midwife appointment at 11 weeks. After that, I could consistently find it.

    R made me try to find the HB today since I still don't feel much movement and it had been awhile since we heard it. I found it in seconds. It's a nice relief.
